Mic?

So how does a mic work for this game? Does it pick up the pitch of your voice to see if it is tune with the song, or is this some cheap gimmicky thing.

mic does work, and it works the same way as rock band, so yeah.

So how does the mic work in 'Rock Band'? Is that good or bad?

Guitar Hero World Tour microphones are compatible with Rock Band, and vice-versa, if that's what you're trying to say. Not sure how it can be good or bad, it all depends on your instrumental preferences.

The mic adjusts not to the words you're singing, but the pitch at which your voice matches the original vocalist of the track. There are two kinds of vocal tracks, Static and Scrolling. In Static, one set of lyrics in sung, and another set pops up afterwards. In Scrolling, the lyrics constantly flow to your pitch marker. There are also parts where any pitch can be used. In Guitar Hero World Tour, the blue line changes to red to indicate a talking part. In Rock Band, the pitch line is at the bottom of the vocal track.

Lastly, there are freeform sections and start-power/energy phrases. If you're still having trouble, consult the Tutorials of either game.

I've read reviews that say that the mics for WT arn't so great and that it's hard to get good scores using them. Is this true? WT was the first one of the series that I bought for PS3 so I bought the game/guitar bundle. I'm only now interested in purchasing a mic (whether it be from Rock Band/Guitar Hero, as long as it is compatible) but I want to know if one mic works better than the other?
The reason is because I plan on getting the Beatles Rock Band game when it comes out in September but I've never played any Rock Band games before. This is the first game that I actually WANT to be able to sing to.

There has been criticism for a few hardware issues regarding backwards compatibility on the PS3 (should be on Wikipedia somewhere). If I were you, and if I owned a PS3, I would buy the Guitar Hero World Tour microphone for GUITAR HERO WORLD TOUR, and vice-versa. Would likely save money.
