Very funny SCATHING (p)review

I just have to share this. I am still laughing now. From today's Guardian newspaper:

Teenage Kicks
9.30pm, ITV1

Adrian Edmonson plays a beleaguered ex-punk in this new sitcom. "I haven't had my end away since election night, 1997!" he whines, as his long-suffering teenage kids roll their eyes and the studio audience all but combusts in a shower of mirth. That this is one of the better lines to seep from this graceless gumbo of mainstream sentimentality and Bottom-esque cruelty gives you some idea of the roaring awfulness involved. Tonight, Vernon (Edmonson) attempts to "get laid", while his Chinese flatmate is mocked for having a Chinese accent. Unbelievable.

I almost want to tune in to see this “roaring awfulness” (great phrase) for myself. Almost.

Having seen half of it so far, I can only hope that the show will be axed after this one and replaced with something decent - how the studio audience are able to laugh that much at the jokes is beyond me.......

Hang on......ok he's taken a swing of beer from a can attached to his crotch and is bending over...yup his trousers have split...and for some reason the audience are now whooping loudly and roaring with laughter...I'm led to believe that they may be on drugs.....

I liked it. I've watched everything with Ade and Rik...and it may not be as funny as the young ones or bottom. But it is still pretty good

I love Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom!!

I enjoyed. I laughed quite a lot. The daughter was really sarcastic and was funny. Bit when was writing notes and said "hand on c*ck" was hilarious :-)

reply

I liked it too. It doesn't come close to the genius of Bottom, but it's worth watching.

Hilarious - May have to be an Ade fan to appreciate it fully though???

I've watched the first two eps. It's not too bad, a bit predictable and nothing we haven't seen before, but a giggle none the less.

I am a fan of Ade Edmonson's other work but this show is by far the worst thing he has ever done.

this show is awesome reminds me of bottom

It wasn't bad imo, it had its moments and Ade is quite charming. :) But the supporting cast is pretty dreadful (annoying overacting teenagers and an almost insulting Chinese stereotype). Also, the laughter track is so OVER THE TOP. A character merely has to walk into the room and the audience are rolling down the aisles in a hysterical fit of laugher!! :S I liked the concept though, it had potential. But overall, very poor compared to classics like The Young Ones and Bottom.
