Selena as Rosalinda and Demi as Carter. Just looks more right when you look at the characters parents.

They did originally go for the opposite roles, but I think the way they went in the end was better. Selena is adorable when she's doing the scruffy kid role and Demi has more of a princessy charm.

I would have liked the movie better if Selena played Rosie and Demi played Carter. Selena just has that classy, elegance to her and she would have portrayed that naturally to the Rosie character. But Selena said "I auditioned for Rosie and for some reason it didn't feel right..." which confuses me cause Selena has all the qualities that would have made Rosie perfectly.

In their People magazine special, Selena and Demi said that when they read the script they automatically knew who should be who. I believe Demi said that Selena is the "tomboy at heart" type.
Plus, like someone else said, Selena has already done the "princess" role, and also Demi has sort of done the "regular girl befriends the stuck-up rich kid" (in Camp Rock) so maybe they both wanted to do something different.
Well isn't the job of an actor to try new roles... that's how they get out of this teen pop Disney stuff haha
