Should have been called 'Diary of a Whiny Kid'

What a little brat that kid is. Most of the obstacles he faced were due to his own flawed behavior. Its one thing to overcome great adversity and become popular, but when you ate like a whiny little baby through most of the movie I don't think you deserve anything.

So many movies are about overcoming adversity to become popular; that's why this one (about a whiny, self-serving kid) is so funny and refreshing.

It's true, Greg is a whiny kid. But that's why I loved it! The main character is not a perfect kid. He's flawed and only cares about popularity. I would definitely like to watch this movie with some of my students and discuss what some of Greg's flaws are (especially with him bullying his own "best" friend Rowley). I think kids can learn a lot from this movie and the rest of the books.

Funny? I didn't laugh once. I had to give this 1/10. Would have given it 7/10 had the handicapped kid with the mullet ran the annoying kid over with his truck and killed him.

Should have been called "Diary of a Most Unpleasant Kid."

How was he whiny? When do we see him whining? Do not forget we are reading his private journal. His own thoughts to himself. But we never see him whining. Not to his parents, not to his brothers, not to his friend, not to Fregley, not to his teachers, not to imdb. Private thoughts do not constitute whining. He is not a whiny kid. He is a wimpy kid.

What are you talking about? There was nothing wrong with his eating. Except when he ate all the mashed potatoes. But that was not whiny, that was funny.

Don't worry - the sequel is a lot better and Greg is far more likeable in it.

i agree i wanted to punch that kid, he was so unlikable

And I can't believe he didn't want to become friends with the cute girl under the bleachers. She was friendly and cool but he kept blowing her off. Rowley was trying to be friends with her though, he was smart. But I guess I agree with one of the posts here that Greg never did whine to anyone out loud, only in his diary. He was still a selfish little douche and treated his best friend badly.

Yes. He wasn't whiny, he was a nasty little pill, bordering on the sociopathic. But apparently he wasn't interested in girls because he wasn't supposed to have reached puberty yet? He was singing soprano and not interested in his brother's magazine.

This kid sucks.

flawed behavior? really? he was 11!

and you see throughout the movie how clueless and ignorant his parents -- especially his mother is! they just sit there and giggle at Manny disrupting the play? what the hell???
