so much hate?

This show was OK in the beginning, but it really started to get good. I enjoy it much better than the last 3 seasons of Family Guy. I was sceptical at first of this show, because the Cleveland character was not funny at all on FG. But he livened up and really hit a good niche.

People love to hate this show, but I don't think they give it a fair chance. The idiot that wrote the current review on the main page admits to only watching the pilot episode...that is not giving it a fair spin. Many shows get better as time goes on and they develop their groove.

I got to agree. I haven't liked Family Guy since season 3 ended and I never liked American dad. For some reason, this show works. Cleveland is especially hilarious, and they pull off meta jokes regularly.

reply

I agree that it has gotten better and that it grows on you. I didn't have much interest in getting to know all the new characters but after only a couple of episodes I realized that the writing made it enjoyable nonetheless. I now wish that it wasn't coming to an end.

I don't get the hate either.

reply

Me neither. I still like watching the reruns on TBS!

The Cleveland Show definitely got better as it progressed. For me, the development of Cleveland Jr made the show better. When he was the center story line, it was, more often than not, a very good episode.

When Fox cancelled this, it was #2 (out of the 3 "Seth" shows). Behind American Dad and far far ahead of Family Guy.

It's offensive to blacks! It's very stereotypical.

I say Jerome's in the house, Watch ya mouth!

reply

I think a lot of the stereotypes were purposeful and used for parody rather than offense. But focusing on the stereotypes really doesn't give enough credit to the show for putting a black family in situations that being a black american was not central to. Most of the stories in each episode made being black an incidental rather than a necessity and that deserves praise or at least some acknowledgement.

Let's be friends!

i agree, it just seemed like a funny show in which the family happened to be black. it was awesome. that said i'm from australia so i might not have got all the stereotype references.

With all due respect...I have watched more than the pilot. I have seen multiple episodes from all four seasons. I just do not find it funny. I love American Dad and Family Guy, I just think that Cleveland was the wrong character to give a spin-off. He is dull and boring (which can work if done right). I just never found the humor as funny as Family Guy or American Dad. I also find it ironic that everyone who hates American Dad and new Family Guy love this show.

In my own opinion, Quagmire would have made a much funnier spin-off. They could of had a show about his travels abroad as a pilot. He wouldn't even need to be removed from Family Guy like Cleveland was. Since the show would focus around his adventures in other places on the job, it could take place in tandem with Family Guy. It could be called "Quagmire: 10,000 Chicks and counting."

Cleveland was never dull or boring on "The Cleveland Show". He may have been dull and boring on "Family Guy" (except for a few episodes), but a lot of people in real life are in a shell when they're around certain types of friends. That could definitely explain Cleveland's behavior on "Family Guy".

Quagmire's character on "Family Guy" has been written about so much (even more since your post in July of 2014) that there's nowhere to go without a complete personality change like we saw with Cleveland. I'd rather watch Brian and Stewie having adventures through time and space (and yes, that's been done several times as well).

Was ok but cleveland was so much funnier on family guy seemed like a totally different charactor

reply

I imagine white supremacists cringe at this show. Eh, who cares. I like it.

Bruce Lee was real. Batman was never real

reply

It wasn't given a lot of respect from the beginning. Family Guy even made fun of it two seasons before it was canceled. There are numerous one liners that were much funnier than anything on Family Guy. Just the other day I jumped on my friends couch and immediately said "it feels good to pee."
