the male character is so weak it's pathetic. After the chick got him to change his whole life around for her and then crushes him , he should have given her a (light) beating and went back to his old life. After that they may still have gotten back together , on his terms , and she would have respected him more.....or they would have went their separate ways , but she still would have respected him more.

Have our ever noticed in a movie that when a man (or woman) is shown beating women or children, he/she is framed as the villain or the unsympathetic character?
Yeah, all we needed was a few minutes of him slapping her around (I'm not sure what a "light" beating is... baby soft punches and tame kicking?), would have made me respect him much more!
