Sniper Record

What is the longest shot made on a sniper rifle, automatic rifle and a barret50 rifle, odes anybody knows??????

reply

2430 meters (1.5 Miles) with a Tac-50 in Afghanistan by Rob Furlong of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

and what about other kind of rifles????, I heard about Furlong record, but I'm looking to know about how far you can shoot with something that is not that big, like the rifles in the movie.

I think M24/M40 is probably the most commonly used one here in the US, both based on the Remington 700. The range range is about 1000m. CheyTac Intervention is another very popular sniper rifle (but heavier), it reaches over 2200m. Personally I love the M1. It doesn't reach as far but highly effective under 500m.

Actually most snipers do not prefer rifles like in the movie, Semi-Auto rifles are less accurate than bolt action. The reason Bolts don't make it in movies is because they are not as sexy as a semi auto. So most snipers actually use the rifles you saw in the movie. In the end Hartman was using a AR style rifle actually which is what the M-16 is based on, which is not a preferred sniper rifle.

This was true until the Accuracy International AS50 came along proving that a semi auto is as good as a bolt action.

Sorry a 27 lbs .50 BMG rifle is not a Sniper Rifle for individuals.
.50 BMG in not used in urban SWAT teams, atleast none that value civilian life.

.50 BMG are used by sniper teams 2-3 people break down the rifle and carry it separately.

Plus the Accurate Intl' is not better than the McMillan Tac-50 which has a lower MOA.

reply

Who said it's better?
The AI is as good as any top bolt action .50mg AND its SEMI!
