English Version

Does anyone know of where the English version might be playing in Edmonton?

reply

the cast of the film speak both english and french...so i heard that they dubbed it with their own voices...which is great if you dont understand french...it just came out here so it should be available across the country soon

reply

Actually, its not dubbed, they filmed all the speaking scenes twice, once in French and once in English. The film is excellent, I strongly recommend it, in either language :)

reply

It was acted twice but the Quebecois version is much better the Canadian BD and DVD used dedicated layers of each. If you select English at the top of the disc you CANNOT access Quebecois version without ejecting and starting again. There is no dubbing the actos did all scenes twice but the English dialogue is poor and the Francophone dialogue is well represented by the English subtitles.

BD is encoded A.

I hope the makers of this film have the good sense to release the French version with English subtitles. I'm sure that the English version will be fine, but I cannot help believe that the francophone actors will be able to put in a more heartfelt performance in their first language.

reply

Agreed. I watched it in French with English subtitles and it was powerful and disturbing. I've seen other films where they try to do it in English and French and it really doesn't work. The mini-series from France "Napoleon" was done this way and it was awful in English. I'd rather watch it in the original language with subtitles as it was meant to be seen. The dual audio English/French versions are for people who are phobic of subtitles.

reply

It could go either way. As this is Montreal, 99.9% of people who grew up in the city speak fluent English -- it'll be interesting to watch both versions.

26,855 people in the Greater Montreal Area speak both English and French, according to the 2006 census.

That represents less than 3% of the city's population, and I wouldn't argue that number :)
