Favorite dance scene

I personally thought the dance battle with the water was rather cool.

Indubitably (IMHO!): the best dance scene was the sequence that was a direct homage to old Hollywood musical films! This was the dance scene, set in the streets, towards the end of the film, that was danced as a duet by 'Moose' (Adam Sevani) & 'Camille' (Alyson Stoner).

The scene selected some of the best routines from the great Hollywood song-and-dance movies of the 1940s & 1950s, as danced by Gene Kelly etc.; then put them together in a montage. In the scene the 2 dancers dance in a variety of ways & with a range of props, including with rubbish bin (aka: 'trash cans' in the USA! LOL!) lids on their feet; they also dance/dash straight through the back of a taxi (USA: 'cab'); & dance/fold over the back of an old sofa. The sofa inspiration was straight from the Gene Kelly/Debbie Reynolds/Donald O'Connor hit movie 'Singin' In The Rain' (1952); the other snippets/moments were taken from a range of other great old films of the musical genre. I think I even vaguely remember the moment where they dance with a prop of framed large portraits also! being from an old film, but can't remember which film it was. Such a compliment to the great dance movies created by old-school Hollywood.

It was a STUPENDOUS scene! All the more memorable as it is made - and played to the viewer - in one long take, with no breaks in the sequence. A true challenge!

I loved this film, but - after 'Luke' (Rick Malambri) stated at the beginning of the film that his crew were made up of dancers with a range of dance styles - and we saw these varying techniques of dance being displayed briefly and with brilliance - we sadly never saw that range/variety again! :-(

So it was a delight to see - in this one scene - such a change in dance style offered to the viewer.

Right, I have now seen 'Step Up 1' & 'Step Up 3' . . . so roll on the other sequels: numbers 2, 4, & then 5 !! :-D
