Whimp character

I like a good korean horror as much as the next person, but this flick is one of the worst to ever grace my screen.. It had great potential, and ended up with me being so angry with the lead character for being a total dimwit and a whimp..

Several times during the movie the idiot lead character could easily stop the psycho woman from doing harm, but he ran away almost screaming.. This ofcourse is the result of a REALLY bad script and/or bad director, which is sad as the acting was ok, especially the psycho chick was played ok..

If you want to see excellent asian horror, watch shutter, Phone, The Wig or Red Shoes instead as all these are better examples of box office horror

I think his 'wimp' aspect, when confronted with the killer, ties in to his idealistic revulsion to having anyone die in front of him... to never harm anyone ever again (the way he harmed his brother). He fancies himself a defender, but a non-violent one.
There's a pair of deleted scenes on the DVD that I think were cut for being too obvious, but they show the evolution of the character.
In the first one it's his first day at work. He gets into a crowded elevator followed by a young girl... this puts the elevator past its weight limit and someone has to get off. So rather than insisting the last girl on get off he gets off himself... and has to run up flights of stairs to make it on time to work.
The second scene is at the end of the movie... where the same thing happens with the girl getting on to the overcrowded elevator. This time he shoves her off, rather than playing to some chivalrous ideal. He's no longer naive and a dreamer.

Yes, exactly! It drives me up the wall in horror/thriller movies where potential victims have the opportunity to disarm/incapacitate their assailants and then don't do it to give the assailants another chance. But in this movie it's different because Jeon Joon-oh is a beacon, throughout the film, for humanitarianism and frequently states he doesn't want to see anyone hurt or disadvantaged, generally only seeing the best in people. From me, he therefore gets a hall pass.🐭
