How does this wonderful film have a 5.3 rating?!

Seriously. Most films that are average (to be generous) earn at least a 7. My best guess is that French people are the majority of the voters, and either 1) They consider a 5 to be "pretty good!", or 2)They are tough judges compared to others. Any thoughts?

It's kind of experimental, perhaps ahead of its time. It's sort of funny, but not completely so. It's sort of dramatic, but has no big dramatic moments. Moviegoers are like fast food eaters these days, expecting big moments of flavor, that is, comedy or drama. When they aren't there, they conclude it's a bad movie. But I think this one was after something different, an attempt to show people and life as they really are, at least in that time and place.
