Sequel?

Does anybody else agree with me that a sequel would be great? It could document the latter part of 2007, and the year 2008 for them. I'd like to see what happened to Ali and Mohammed.

reply

Yes, I agree. I heard on the HBO documentary site that Ali and his family had moved to the States. I'd like to see how Mohammad dealt with re-doing his senior year, as well as Hayder and Anmar.

I actually saw this documentary during a small viewing at my uni... laura winter is friends with my professor so he thought it would be cool for us to see the film and get to meet her and talk with her afterwards... so i can offer some insight :)

mohammed repeated his final year in high school and failed 3 of his exams once more. Ms. winter said he smuggled himself out of Iraq and into Syria, hiding in the trunk of a car, and is now working in a phone shop there.

ali and his family moved to the states

hayder, anmar and their families also left iraq... one of them moved to the States and the other to Italy i think, so sorry but I'm not positive... bad memory and all.

Ms. Winter also said that the boys do still keep in touch.

hope this helps

oh and she doesn't think there will be a sequel, I wanted to know the same thing because I thought she could do something in the style of 21 up America... but, sadly, i don't think it will happen.

I agree with the OP. HBO is starting to play this again actually.

I really want to know what happened to all of them. They said that Mohammed had to re do his high school year and he was working at his uncles car shop. I wonder if he ever went on to college.
Ali was waiting to go to school when he could afford it.

Thanks for the update Moho girl. They really should do a part 2.

Ali and Hayder have talked about doing that, but it is all unofficial right now. Ali and Mohammed are in the US, Hayder is in England, and Anmar was in Jordan for a while, but now is back in Baghdad.
