Hayao Miyazaki influence

Yes, Rango was obviously influenced by (or pays homage to) movies such as Chinatown, Fear and Loathing..., True Grit etc. - as mentioned in half the threads here.

I believe the makers were also influenced by the work of Hayao Miyazaki, and not just because the movie carries a strong ecological message. Scenes such as the one with the plants walking en masse towards the water pipe, or those insects (?) carrying Rango to meet the Spirit of the West are highly reminiscent of many Miyazaki animes. Anyone else agree?

I think is more influenced by Sergio Leone and spaghetti westerns.
Some tips: the well at beginning rotating, Clint Eastwood the Man with No Name, the music that remember the real Djiango not the flick made by Tarantino and so on...

They were influenced by (or paid homage to whichever you prefer) to a whole BOATLOAD of movies. There's another post which lists all of them.
