I love short films but you hardly ever see them outside festivals and I'm having trouble thinking of any to recommend that I know for sure you can get copies of, let alone somethnig of the quality of Gone Fising which is truly outstanding it both emotion and quality. Here's my suggestions. Stephen King's "The Woman In The Room". I'm certain I have this as a DVD extra somewhere so you might be able to track it down. Very low budget but I remember it as sad and moving story. Also, with the same sort of bitter sweet humour as Gone Fishing "Northern Soul". This is a short based around the song "Northern Soul" by Clayhill. It's an extra on the UK Region 2 DVD of "Dead Man's Shoes". Very British comedy about a young man's dream to break into wrestling. It's about 30 mins and the song is only used during the training montage. Might I also recommend Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Available on DVD in the USA and downloadable from some stores. From the maker of Buffy it's the tragic story of an up and coming super-villain's quest to find identity and love. Funny and ultimately touching for reasons it's hard to say why. It's just really well done and with conviction.
