Terry Malick’s film of last year, “Tree of Life” to me bears a lot of resemblance... Just saw “Enter The Void” in last weeks and I think I would have been less enamored in some ways of Malick’s style there, seeing the relationship to ETV.

Both movies are so subjective... and I am diggin’ ‘em both. Truly Cinema as Art if you ask me, a way to present narrative like no other--save a fantastic writer and a bit more participation (as occurs when you read anything...).

Nothing I can think of. But for spiritual/philosophical and Psychedelic films I highly recommend The Holy Mountain and The Fountain. Both classics.

"Kuroneko" by Kaneto Shindo
"2001" by Stanley Kubrick
"Enter The Void" contains elements of both movies, and then some.

I thought of the idea of ghosts in Japanese films and folklore. They seem to do a lot of flying around, and are stuck in the rut of ghostdom until a loved one frees them.

You know Oscar's hallucinations at the very beginning were very reminiscent of the psychedelic scene from 2001. I thought about that when I was watching it, except I noticed a more fractal element to Oscar's experience.

Closest in terms of subject matter is Blueberry http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276830/

Also The Fountain is similar in ways.

Mind Game is the closest animated equivalent. That flick is insane.

I'd recommend "Waking Life," although it's a good deal more talky.

The films that came to my mind (strangely enough) while watching were

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM

INLAND EMPIRE

TREE OF LIFE and

EYES WIDE SHUT

"The Trip"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062395/

Simulates an LSD trip. Remarkably similar in some ways, covers a lot of the same ground (at least visually)is almost as retina-frying and was waaaaay before CG, but no less mind blowing. Might also try The Monkees "Head," believe it or not. Yes.
