There's a thread comparing Enter the Void to Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life.
I think two other films to be considered are Tarkovsky's Solyaris and the film Mr. Nobody.
I don't really see too much in common with Solaris, except maybe the theme of memory and longing and a few scenes where Tarkovsky spins the camera round above the main characters face. I might be tempted to compare Enter the Void with Carnival of Souls
shareHaving reflected a little, I think a good comparison would be between Enter the Void and Brainstorm with Natalie Wood and Christopher Walken, which has trippy visuals, life after death, driven compulsions and a roving backstory, worth a viewing if you've not seen it.
shareBut Brainstorm is an excellent film. It follows a traditional narrative line, tells the story very clearly, yet manages to incorporate all those interesting elements you mentioned. Enter The Void is all over the place in terms of story, direction, editing. You'd have to be on heavy-duty doses of Adderall or speed to continue to stay engaged with Enter The Void through to the end (I'm basing this on the long cut).
