god, but wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyyyy too lo

Look I'm all for some of the weirder more psychedelic/surreal films

classics like Eraserhead, The Holy Mountain, Videodrome, Heavy Metal

even newer niche things like john dies at the end,

and I really wanted to like this, I did

and I truthfully enjoyed the first hour and a half of it immensely, but it was simply too long.

I'm not gong they should shave the final 30-60 minutes off the film; a structured ending is required for what they were aiming for narrative-wise, but they really could have condensed the film; I thought several times that the movie was "ending" but nope, surprise there's another arc.

Not saying I hate the film or anything, it was certainly unique and memorable, but undeniably flawed

I assume you watched the longer director's cut?

i saw it on netflix; i'm not really sure if that's a yes or a no to your question

reply

There's not much difference to be honest but it may have made a difference. The director's cut is 2 hours and 35 minutes in length (PAL) where as the original release is 2 hours and 20 minutes (PAL).

and i have a copy that runs for 2:41:16. a much longer version i guess...:D

reply

Same copy that i got, way way too long. Like an hour could have been cut pretty much without loosing any substance - says the guy who didn't like the movie.

4/10.

Yeah I feel you .. the second part of the movie was going really slow .. not dialogue at all which made it look like a history. The fact that after every quick scene they moved the camera trough all those buildings and streets, this human to human thing, just simply wasn't making any seance to me any longer. I felt like I've seen more streets and spent more time one walls than what I really needed to see .. anyways .. I don't regret anything maybe that's what I should have seen .. art ..I liked the visual effects the movie blowed my mind but I definitely have seen bigger masterpieces than this.

reply

I agreed. By the thirteenth time a camera disappeared into one object and came out another, I wasn't wowed by the trick anymore, I was bored. By the eighteenth time I saw a Tokyo nightclub, I wasn't wowed by the imagery anymore, I was bored. The first half hour showed so much promise, but it's sad for a director when the opening credits are the best part of his film.

reply

I had the exact same thoughts.

Very original, visually outstanding; I'm a huge fan of disturbing movies (my masochist side), but this was simply too long; every set of scenes that intended to simulate a one shot single scene was way too long.

reply

If he would have just cut out the part where we follow Oscar around again from the beginning to the time he got shot, it would have been near perfect for me. This is one of the most fascinating movies I've ever come across, and you're right, the length is really the only thing that keeps me from giving it the highest score.

reply

I have the 2 hour and 40 minute version and it drags on for way too long. I have no problems with watching long movies as long as there's a need for it. This movie didn't necessitate being as long as it is considering considerable spans of time pass with not much happening. For me it weakens the effect of the film and what its trying to portray by dragging on.

Agree, I wish there was a shorter cut - I'm thinking like 90 minutes lol.

reply

i agree, there are many many scenes that were just unnecessary and nothing even happens, im not saying just because nothing happens its unnecessary, im a huge film enthusiast and i know thats not true, but in this case it really does do no point

reply

Yeah it was ridiculously long. It would have been markedly better had Noe shaved off 45 minutes or so.

reply

normally i would agree, there are less movies which i really like, which extends the length further than 2.15.
But in this case, enter the void could have lasted forever, and i wouldnt have a problem with it. i would still sit in front of the tv and watch it. maybe already did of thirst.

So you like watching paint dry?? Man you have no taste.
