They don't care about prison

Our legal system is a joke. Those white collar scammers that get caught don't care about spending 5-10 years in a minimum security prison. Nobody drops a soap in there, instead they get 3 delicious meals per day and play tennis at taxpayer's expense. Once they get out they all have their million dollar stash waiting for them in offshore banks.

This is pathetic, how weak and incompetent our law is. We cherish criminals and cannot do anything against them because of the "democracy". Those scammers deserve to be shot and tortured, instead they are sent on a vacation. No wonder that the crime rate is so high. *beep*, there's literally nothing to lose. In this country it's much more appealing to live a filthy rich lifestyle for couple of years and then get a free vacation in a minimum security prison, instead of busting your ass off surviving paycheck to paycheck with a clean law abiding record.

What breaks my heart the most are the ones that hand over their retirement savings to hese *beep* and have to go back to work at 70 and 80 years old.

These people do so much damage to the economy and screw up so many lives. Like the other poster said, people having to work until they die because they trusted one of these people and invested with them.

They spend the money on such trivial things too, huge Birthday parties, extravagant cars. They just blow it, and the money was hard earned by someone else.

If these scammers actually tried to start a legit business with some of the money they scammed I'd think they could do it. One guy scammed over $250M. Give me $250M to start a legit company I'm sure I could make a go of it.

Running at legit business requires work. These people start small and then start paying back investors with other investors money. Which spread word of mouth and gets them to millions if not Madoff billions. If they started a business it wouldn't amount to that much at least in the beginning. It would require handwork and people wouldn't be getting these huge paybacks in such a short period. So its easier to scam someone.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

Really, the point should be to recover as most of the stolen assets as possible. The only leverage the state realistically has is to offer a deal.
