Trying to get a job?

I am having a hard time with her job search reaction. She seems surprised she does not get a job right away, is it really that much easier to get a job in Palestine? What does she do, she seems to have given up getting a job in her field within weeks, many Americans have to looks for months. She seems surprised when her sis tells her to make an appointment, instead preferring to just barge into places looking for employment. Can you really walk into any bank in Palestine, ask for a job and expect to get it on the spot? I find it hard to believe.

I heard a story from a friend about getting a job in Latin America, how all applicants show up on the same day, everyone has to fill out lengthy forms and wait for many weeks to hear back. I doubt the US is among the hardest places in the world to get a job, her expectations seem way off to me.

Apparently graduates are treated with a little more interest in other places than they are in the West, where virtually everyone is a graduateSource:Amreeka Moviehttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2010/01/amreeka-movie

Finding it hard to believe doesn't make it untrue. She comes from a different society. Perhaps that IS the way things are done there. Why is that so "hard to believe"?

Plus, just because she knows the banking system in her homeland may not translate to understanding it in the U.S.

Somewhat off topic: The summary of this movie says she moves to live with family in RURAL Illinois. There is no way in Hades a town in rural Illinois has anything remotely resembling an Arabic restaurant. Chicago, sure, but the city would probably have to be comparable in size to (or be very very close to) Chicago to offer that.

I don't know what standards are like in America but here in Australia, many of the migrant taxi drivers are highly qualified professionals that have found it very hard to find employment in their field here. I think our employers value somewhat less degrees received in other countries so engineers etc have to resort to driving taxis and delivering pizzas. So I don't find her job search reaction hard to believe at all. It probably would've been much easier to find employment in Palestine.
