"I am an addict" (may contain spoilers)

There are two ways that Jackie identifies herself: "I am a nurse" and, after she goes to the rehab program, "I am an addict." It seems to me that after uttering the words "I am addict" out loud, it's almost as if she gives herself permission to continue using even after quitting a few times. She's no longer fighting it, she is an addict, so abusing drugs is what she does - just as saving people is what she does because she is a nurse. I find that interesting because I guess having people say "I am ... and I am an addict (or alcoholic)" is a way of getting people to admit their addiction and want recovery. But for Jackie, it had the opposite effect.
