season 2 episode 7 spoiler thread

I liked the episode so wanted to talk about it. Spoiler ahead.

I think my favorite part was when Billy Butcher is talking to Dr Vogelbaum and realises that Homelander and himself have both been maltreated, but what Butcher takes away from it might not be empathy. Instead, I felt like Butcher was thinking, hey, now that I understand what makes him tick, I have a weapon with which to defeat him.

who was exploding their heads?

Maybe we'll find out in episode 8? Or we'll have to wait another year to find out, ugh......

I gotta say I started laughing when I realised the gore in the beginning of the episode was a fakeout. I figured out quite quickly in Season 1 that gore is this show's idea of fun, so every episode is going to have at least one gory death. So once they get that out of the way in an episode, I relax a bit, and if I'm halfway through an episode with no gory death, I start looking for where that might happen, to make sure I'm prepared (by covering my eyes with my fingers; I can do without the gory deaths, I'm just sayin'). So they totally caught me unawares, and it was so over the top I just burst into laughter.

I'm really hoping that after showbiz gets back to work after the pandemic, we get some cheerful tv. Not everything has to have the same tone as Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones.

Wow, you are so not the target audience of this show! If anything, I only want to see more series offerings like The Boys!

What I have realised is that women are only the target for extremely sappy tv that is incredibly boring and utterly mindless. I think there is room for tv that is interesting and challenging, but that isn't either sappy or uber-violent. TV that BOTH men and women can enjoy together. I don't really understand why those who make tv feel that the only way to write interesting stories is to go completely over the top on violence. But, I'm watching the show, so, who am I to complain. Why am I watching it? It's what's on. All I'll say is, I would not mind a few slight concessions to the female audience. Case in point: the actors who play Hughie and Starlight, who are both perfectly decent actors, have zero chemistry with each other. Just make sure you have one couple with good sexual tension and I will cheerfully cover my eyes with my fingers for all the gory scenes. It's all I ask.

The reason "it's what's on" doesn't work nowadays when there are a million things on.

I am a woman, too, and I enjoy this show a great deal. In fact, I think it's one of the best things I've ever seen. I also really enjoyed the series Utopia on Amazon Prime.

And I think their chemistry is just fine, never noticed anything off about it.

How nice for you.

Cindy or what's her name - the girl who ran away from the asylum.

reply

Yea that is who I was thinking too, but why? Thought she would have been for this court case. Fantastic episode.

reply

I thought Cindy too, but she's a loose cannon for sure. Not sure how they can control her or give her orders to do such a thing. Also, whoever is exploding heads also exploded that blonde CIA director's head in the first episode of the season. Cindy was locked in a cell then. Why would she be picking and choosing people against the 7? She wouldn't be on Vought's side.

I'm thinking it's the Cult. They want to infiltrate the 7. They blew up the director so the 7 can survive and blew up A-Train's replacement. The reason I think this is Homelander looked as completely bewildered as everyone else that heads were exploding around him.

reply

It's possible that the company used Cindy for targeted assassinations.
Also I do't think that the Church of the Collective is anything but a Scientology spoof using supes the same way church of Scientology uses celebrities.

reply

I thought the same thing about the spoof angle until the David Miscavige guy said A-Train was guaranteed to get back into the 7, then a couple scenes later his replacement's head conveniently exploded.

reply

I agree about this whole thing being doing of the cult but I think either a new character will be introduced or a character we thought to be a normal person turns out to be a super human.

reply

Oh, good hypothesis about the Cult!!

reply

I think she was still stuck in the asylum when the first lady's head exploded (I mean the lady whose head exploded several episodes ago), so I doubt it's her?

The Politician - Victoria
