Nice to see so many of them, too bad there isn't more.

Just from the top of your list I see: Hank Aaron, Troy Aikman, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, all of whom were -- as you say -- "Hollywood and Music Republican Celebrities." I loved Hank Aaron's first film! And don't even get me started on that single by Troy Aikman!

reply

Personally I just love Neil Armstrong's "It's a Small Dubstep for Man," or Buzz Aldrin's epic drama "Second To None."

But on the topic, I don't consider entertainers on the basis of their politics, nor politicians on their entertainment value. If they get their job done as per, then all this other stuff is irrelevant.

[fixed a typo]

Suprise! Nothing to see here

reply

Is there a point to this, apart from you trying to prove a link between goppery and personal self-loathing so grand it drives a person to take a job where they pretend to be other people?

reply

Kevin Costner is not a Republican, just a conservative Democrat who liked George H.W. Bush. If Sydney Pollack was a Republican, he was a liberal one.

reply

[deleted]

And I thought Dobbs said he switched to an Independent.

Update: Kifipaul, that site apparently counts anyone who ever did or said anything that could be considered conservative, as little as just being spotted at a Republican convention or inaugaration. There are many liberals on that list: Billy Bob Thorton, Michael J. Fox, Pat Tillman, etc.

reply

Charles Barkley used to be republican but recently he's stated that he thinks republicans are full of it.

wait what?

reply

[deleted]

Others I doubt: Delta Burke, Dixie Carter
Ones I completely disbelieve: Anderson Cooper, Maury Povich

reply

[deleted]

One I was surprised wasn't listed was Robert Downey Jr.

reply

This list doesn't prove anything. I like the fact that Hollywood has people with different perspectives. The problem is that most conservatives don't like that. Think about it all conservative viewpoints are "all or nothing" (no gun regulation, no gay marriage, no abortion). Liberal perspectives are mostly "let's include everyone" or sensible regulations (gun control, gay rights, diplomacy).

Also, to add to the list of exceptions; Drew Carey endorsed Obama and both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Clint Eastwood have supported liberal causes. Bruce Willis recently did an interview where he all but denied being a Republican.

There is a difference between conservatism and a Republican sheep. Just like there's a difference between a liberal and all of the things you make us out to be.

That's what was unfunny about this movie. It showed liberals as one-sided, and that side was nauseatingly wrong.

reply

Not all Liberals are enlightened thinkers who have all the answers.

They are also not pacifist hippiest who want their country to bend over and grab ankle.

Not all Conservatives are bible bashing Gitmo supporting gay hating gun toting facists.

They have minds, and are capable of reason.

Its a complex world.

Filled with simple people .

In a fair universe, we would all be better people.

reply

Why is John McCain and Arnie on that list. We all know of their political affiliations as they were/are Republican politicians.

Its that man again!!

reply

HA!!

I like these little shots of perspective.

They're not gods; they *play pretend* for a job! :)

reply

Some observations:

1. Not all Republicans are conservative, not all Democrats are liberal, but most Democrat leaders are pretty much all liberals.

2. While Hollywood is a left-leaning player in the culture war, its participation is dwarfed by the news media at large.

3. There is no Republican Attack Machine. There is no Democrat Attack Machine either. Politicians create them out of thin air to justify all manner of unethical maneuvers during primary campaigns. As in, "I call my opponent a pervert only because I know the '[Republican/Democrat] Attack Machine' will do it", which being non-existent, never does. However, keeping the illusion alive serves Hollywood because it creates counter-point to its film heroes.

reply

Neil Armstrong wouldn't have gotten his ONE claim to fame if it weren't for a liberal president and Congress. Guess he plays both sides of the bed, depending on who can do best for him. Some principles!!

reply

- Athletes are not Hollywood/Music.
- Rob Lowe is a Democrat. He supported Arnold because they're friends.
- Costner is not a Republican.
- Woods was a Democrat, either switched parties in 2000 or just voted for GWB.
- Willis calls himself a Democrat.
- Pat Tillman was a Democrat.
- Ron Silver was a Democrat who supported GWB at least in the 2nd election.
- Malkovich isn't political, he thinks both sides are *beep* up.
- Clint Eastwood served as mayor of Carmel, CA as a Republican, but he's more of a Libertarian.
- Charles Barkley is not a Republican. One of his quotes was taken out of context.
- Joan Allen? The one who played Pat Nixon for Oliver Stone?

Voting for or donating to "A" Republican politician does not make a person a Republican. I voted for a Republican congressman in 2008 and I am *definitely* not a Republican.

Coffee is for closers only!
- Alec Baldwin, Glengarry Glen Ross

reply

Thanks for this list, marriednavycop!
I think you left out Jon Voight, Dennis Hopper, Dog the bounty hunter, and the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

"Woods was a Democrat, either switched parties in 2000 or just voted for GWB."
Ooh, maybe you should read his personal quotes right here on imdb.com. He goes to mass everyday and thinks abortion is murder. He is Conservative.

Wait, so conservatives are the only ones who go to church regularly, right? I mean, you CAN'T be a liberal and believe in God. That would just be absurd.

How's your sarcasm filter these days?

reply

No, you're misunderstanding me. I said that because James Woods is Catholic and, crazy me, Catholics follow the Ten Commandments, which includes Thou Shall Not Kill.
I NEVER said only Conservatives believe in God.

"You're incapable of exciting me, Steel, except as an anthropological curiosity."
Day of the Dead

reply

So not killing is something only conservatives believe in? Please, let's continue this line of discussion.

reply

I'm talking about not killing the unborn.

"You're incapable of exciting me, Steel, except as an anthropological curiosity."
Day of the Dead

reply

Right, but not everyone believes that abortion is murder.

reply

Hands off till the child is born.

After that of course, they're fair game, since we don't want to pay for anything to make sure that child is brought up safe and healthy. If we're lucky, poverty and not being wanted by their parents will lead to a life of criminal activity, so we can execute 'em when they get older!

reply

Hands off until it's born? Hands off while it's a cluster of cells without any brain activity but AFTER it's coo'? How logical.

And abortion is, by definition, not murder. Both legally and linguistically.

reply

hate to be anal about things but if what you say is/was accurate, why do the courts then charge someone with double homicide if they murder a pregnant woman?

Day of the Dead

reply

It says thou shalt not murder.

but since when did catholics start following the Ten commandments?

Plus if he is a Catholic then he has to be a Socialist.

reply

Remember that Jesus was blue-collar construction worker and really, really hated the wealthy.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
--Proverbs 22:16

reply

Wrong, Jesus hated nobody. He loved the world enough to give His life for it.

reply

...Destiny's Child is listed? How can I be the only one to notice?

A group of 3 black women are Republicans? This list is bogus. I'm aware there are black Republicans, but Beyonce DID sing "At Last" to the Obamas and has vocally supported liberal causes, and I'd be pretty surprised if the others hadn't.

reply

That one puzzled me in that how can a musical group would be listed like they are a single entity. Its 3 damn people!

reply

why does it matter? their performers not Politicians or Philosophers.

Andrew Lloyd Webber isn't a Republican he maybe a tory but he can't be republican.

also on your signature
"Don't Like Cops?, Next Time You're In Trouble Call A Crack Head!"
the biggest threat to anyone is always the executive power of the state best represented by the Police they are a necessary evil at best and at worst they are organisations like the RUC who are just criminals with badges.
