Who copied who?

I am very surprised that nobody talks about "Tobi":

a Spanish movie from 1981 with an amazingly similar plot. When was the short movie of Rose Tremain written? Why nobody credits no one in this whole mess?

How interesting! Of course, the Spanish movie is less known. Sometimes there are coincidences. I need to watch the Spanish one first, though...

The short story is called "Moth" by British author Rose Tremain. It's set in an American trailer park and the narrator is a character not in the film, a woman neighbor who sometimes cares for the daughter. The film makes Ricky's parents a lot more sympathetic than in the short story. "Moth" can be found in Rose Tremain's short story collection, "The Darkness of Wallis Simpson."

While I was watching the credits of "Ricky", I did see Moth and Rose Tremain listed in the credits toward the end.
