Ricky on the cupboard (spoilers)

At one point during the movie, the little girl asks her mother if she thinks Ricky will ever fly. But they discuss this AFTER Ricky's already gotten to the top of the cupboard himself. So he already flew; otherwise, how could they explain him getting up there himself?

reply

Maybe she meant 'fly away', like a bird, free and constantly flying from place to place, without a steady home/cage. Basically, what we see at the very end has become Ricy's fate.

"He shall be an adder on the path, to bite a horse's heel"

reply

Yeah, and then she's like "first he has to walk!" That was a boo-boo, I agree.

The first time he got on top of the cupboard, there is no way those featherless, tiny wings would have lifted him up at all! Also, it was so weird that it wasn't a world-wide manhunt for something so unusual, when he flew away! It had to have all been a dream; too unreal, but fun movie to watch.

I hadn't even thought of your point about a manhunt, er, babyhunt; but of course you are right. Still, I think we are intended to take it as having not been a dream; and that Ricky did get to the top of the cupboard by flying. A little sloppy by the filmmakers, to be sure; but this still strikes me as the most reasonable interpretation of the film.

Oh, if it were the only mistake or plothole in the movie it could be easilly forgiven...
