overrated and pathetic...

saw MNIK the other day...

now i have to say that playing an autistic person proved to be overburdening to the talent of SRK...he really was not convincing to watch, i mean the kid at the start of the movie did a better job than SRK!!

now comes the story...the whole thing of rizwan getting close to mandira, parking his a$$ at her shop everyday and taking that kid to the amusement park and all, typical karan johar tear jerking brigade at work....and man was that meeting with obama at the end something..hehe!!with obama looking like a spoof of 50 cent + usher..

and those little jokes and wisecracks in the movie...aww if that is humor then i dont wanna say anything more..

this movie is a disapointment.

My sentiments exactly! I will never listen to SRK fans ever again. I must admit they did a good job with the hype and this will most certainly win best film at all the stupid 100 or so bollywood awards shows they have every year. Just goes to show that they like mediocre films. I bet India will put this forward as their entry to the Oscars. This film just made me cringe throughout and I know it will offend some Americans with they way they were portrayed. I will NOT be looking at the next SRK/KJ film.

this is a typical muslim sentiment garnering flick...

and US policy on terrorism has made them secure since 9/11 till today, hundreds of people die in terror attacks in india bcoz their is no policing of muslims...they plant bombs and get away...

US is smart and doesnt allow this...i think MNIK is a flawed movie as far as agenda for india is concerned....this an addition to it being a bad flick :)

Just curious what do mean by
"in india bcoz their is no policing of muslims."

Are you implying that a muslim has never been arrested in India or are you suggesting that Muslims should be carted off by the police to concentration camps?

reply

It's all about about perception.

If you are expecting chick-flick then don't watch it.
If you are expecting a bang bang bang with lot of CGI don't watch it.
If your are expecting a shallow comedy movie then don't watch it.
If you are too cynical and eager to compare it with 'Hollywood' then don't watch it.

This film has certain flaws, but those flaws are futile compared to the excellent entertainment and a good message presented by the movie. It's not about your eyes only.

reply

I agree with you except this can probably pull off as a chick-flick because half my theatre was crying.

reply

Also, if you are expecting your typical Bollywood musical, don't watch it.

I cannot tell you how many posters have said "lyk OMG itz so slow n there wuz NO music orr dancinggg!!!!!! sooo annoyingg!!!!"

My Name Is Khan was not perfect, but it was a great film with a strong and ACCURATE message about the "terrorist" stereotype placed on Muslims after 9/11. It is not a shallow and superficial love story as I was expecting, it was solid entertainment given by two fine actors.

If you want it, then won't you taste it?

reply

What do you mean YOU guys? I know a good film when I see it and although this tries hard, it simply isn't. But go ahead, waste your money and time on this crapfest.

reply

By you I meant you Kyzasoze2003 and Meet(Whatever).

policing is what the US does....they make sure that a certian famous shahrukh khan does not pass immigration..

policing means cracking down on madarsas..which the US did on a large scale after 9/11

policing means stopping the brainwash of muslims...

what im saying is that US has realized that a free country and democracy is NOT ABOVE NATIONAL SECURITY....nothing is above national security..india shud be doing the same, get into their ghettos and keep an eye on them

and about this movie...it is not a bad one,but there is nothing special either..its a very ordinary film

reply

'get into their ghettos and keep an eye on them', thts gotto be the most disgustingly naive statement i've heard in a while.....india has over 120 mn muslims, so u want indian govt to get into their 'ghettos' and keep an eye over a single one of them coz they are all potential terrorists...
options available to US in dealing with terrorist are not same wht india has - different countires, different people and different historier, but clearly whtever india is doing currently isnt wrking....

now getting back to movie, it was a awefully average movie very typical of tht eunuch karan johar. movie also got extra publicity thanks to those shev sina *beep* who just cant refrain frm making an exhibition of their mental retardation every time opprtunity is presented...srk capitalized on this well....

reply

what do you mean you people...

reply

Technically just cuz you see a film and like it doesn't make it a "good" film, its your perception which is of course biased as is everyone elses and hence inaccurate but talking down this line - my bias, I loved it. strong msg, wonderful acting, just fantastic. and I know a good film when I see it and this one doesn't have to try, it's got it all :p

I am an India, A Hindu. And your statement is preposterously wrong.

'Policies against Muslim'? what do you mean? Like we should treat them as a different breed just because a fraction of them are terrorists? India is being targeted by terrorism frequently because it's close to two safe heavens of the terrorists, Pakistan and Afghanistan. And the politicians are to be blamed for the failure of their removal, not common people. It's much more easier to cause terrorism in India than to US which is far away. But that doesn't mean that the billions of Muslims living in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and other countries uniformly support terrorism. Pakistan itself is one of the topmost victim of terrorism, so why the terrorists are killing Muslim people? The terrorists have no religion, hey hide under the false notion of pan Islam-ism.

you absolutely did not understand what i said...

i am comparing US and Indian in house policies towards terrorism, where does the question of neighbouring countries come?

u think there are no muslims in US...

it is so funny to see that the guys who liked the movie are trying so hard to prove the other guys wrong.. jeez man.. if people didn't like it then they just didnt like it.. period.. haha mnik lovers are trying so hard to convince the world that the movie is good..!!

if you liked the movie then hey.. good for you.. you liked it.. why are you forcing others to think the same?

you were just SCii Fiied..!!!

reply

the movie was TERRIBLE!! like all KJo movies and most of the SRK films.

but i liked SRK's acting in general. SRK's accomplishment is that for the greater part, he saved this character from himself.

reply

dude this is not a comedy movie..this is a serious drama..u have to see it from a muslims point of view after 9/11 till 2009 for 8 yrs until obama became president, muslims were treated like outcasts..this is a true story that most muslims had to face..u cant expect to watch this movie texting on the cell or juss munching down popcorns and expecting a fun movie..this is a serious drama that u have to watch it and put urself in a muslims shoes between 2001 and 2009

reply

I am a hindu indian in U.S. I have many indian and pakistani muslim friends.. I will have to ask them their opinion on this movie..

and btw for some reason none of them ever felt like an "outcast" in U.S... I will ask them for you if they think they're an "outcast".. haha

you were just SCii Fiied..!!!

A Wednesday was quite a good movie and far better than MNIK, but if I was to recommend a movie about Terrorism in India I'd recommend Black Friday. Now that's how you make a movie! Karan Johar take note.

reply

That is all fine, BUT MNIK is not a movie about terrorism.

'Hello? Hello? Main Albert bol raha hoon'

reply

yeah..

it is about terrorism + love + autism + racism + hitchhiker + motels ..etc etc

LMAO

rightly said mnik is not about terrorism but about a human emotion who distinguish this world in good and bad people only. its about a person who cant socially interact but he knows what is right and what is wrong.

srk is a first rate mullah who rejoices in his heart when those bombs go off...hes one of the millions of those so called moderate muslims who are wolfs in sheep skin, they want everyone else's blood to spill, muslims always think about revenge...anywhere in the world.

The Movie is CRAP....

and the Obama guy seems like they found him in the Basket-Ball yard.

and the whole scene with Mama Jenny was so much CRAP.

Again Karan Johar has ade an awfull movie.

BUT, SRK and Kajol were great.

reply

You guys have guts after KANK u still have it in you to watch an SRK/KARAN JOHAR movie??

reply

I saw this in New Jersey today, and I liked it better when it was called "Forrest Gump".

The crazy music was bludgeoning otherwise okay scenes.

More importantly, the film is 9 years late. The sociopolitical sentiments would have been timely then.

reply

well.. if you would have watched Barack Obama ever, you would know that Christopher B. Duncan (the guy who playes Obama in MNIK) did a good job. His gestures, voice match Obama's brilliantly, so he did do a great impersonation there.

You be there in the Casting team and get a better guy. You could probably even get a matching DNA..lol..

Its not always only about looking the same as the one that you are impersonating.

reply

The actor playing Obama was the actor who played Obama on a weekly comedy show in US about this time (Saturday Night Live). Why would that kind of choice be a movie flaw anyway?

Mama Jenny scene was heartfelt in part and there are MANY villages like that in rural America, black and white and mixed. It has been said that it was conceived so that Rizvan could meet the Prez. And we have lots of those awful hurricanes, lots.

Agree that SRK & Kajol were great. Kajol, so beautiful. And believable. And SRK depicted a functioning autistic person well.

Life's too short to be pissed off all the time.

reply

I could tell from the promos that this will be a cringe worthy, melodramatic, borefest and have avoided it thus far. Although I was becoming somewhat curious about believing in the hype, your review has managed to curb that curiousness for now. In fact, we can now tell who the real "reviewers" are. All those who gave 5 stars to this movie obviously did so for reasons other than the movie itself. They probably added an extra star or two to simply support the movie against shiv sena.

reply

5 outta 10 at best, anything else = pushing it.

...actually i'm trying to figure out if it's actually even worth a 5, hmm...

reply

nthin gr8 here except the character of rizwan khan...otherwise an avg. movie

reply

True, one of the most overrated movies of this year. It's narration is absolutely boring. Set pieces such as flood scenes, we shall overcome, airport security, etc. are poorly constructed, even funny and silly at few instances. I can't understand why SRK is trying to copy Dustin Hoffman, when he is such a talented actor himself. the issue of racial profiling is better demonstrated in movies like Khuda Kay liye and maybe New York, MNIK just fails to move you. it's one liners are bland and irritating. The only good part of the movie are its opening scenes. A very poor exercise in movie making by any standards. a colossal disappointment, total waste of time and money. guess 1000 euros in Berlin could have been better spent feeding hungry Muslims in Ethiopia (thats in Africa).

reply

*applaud*

you were just SCii Fiied..!!!

reply

I have to agree.. a 100%

This movie is absolutely crap and to top it off the (stupidest ever) director wants you to believe that its oh so emotional and funny and oh! wait its about the disability.. and the will of a simple man!

I say F you and your stupid 'soft audiences'

New York is a 1000 times better movie about a similar subject.

Karan Johar - Anurag Kashyaps of today will set you right.. eventually!

reply

Too bad the OP is pathetically using his dislike of this film to express his dislikes for muslims

reply

i don't dislike muslims as a whole....i have muslim friends myself and they are good people...

my argument is that muslims do not have the sense of patriotism that can make them true Indians, or for that matter....muslims cannot fit in any country in the world..

they always want a world of their own and shed blood for it....time to stamp this thing out of india...they way US is doing.

90% muslims are not terrorists...but 90% terrorists are muslims..
