If you are ok with watching a movie with no payoff this is for you..

I put this in my Netflix queue after reading some user reviews and I love psych. thrillers and that's what it was listed as so I definitely wanted to try this film out. Also..Ellen Paige, Susan Sarandon, Cillian Murphy, Josh Lucas, ect..so many good names. Wow what a disappointment. It was brilliantly acted so I dont want to fault any of the actors because they did their job. However, I don't know why so many of them were attracted to this script. I actually enjoyed it there for awhile but I soon realized it would be what I call one of "those films." The ones where you dont get a payoff or conclusion or any kind of clear answers. I don't need everything wrapped up nicely but this movie doesn't even wrap it sloppily. It just ends abruptly and you most certainly will feel your time has been wasted. The performances are great..sad this is a big stinker.

No payoff? Are you sure you watched it?

The guy killed "himself" so escape his life! He found it much more comfortable as Emma than he did John! This concluded the downfall of John, i.e. the payoff, the whole film geared towards this!

That's not even mentioning the realisation that Emma has at the end, that she knows for a fact that she would inflict pain on Maggie's child as John's mother did to him, so she kicked Maggie out to ensure the safety of the child!

What would you have preferred? That Emma walked out the house, stood infront of the train, took her wig, makeup and clothing off to tell everybody that John and Emma were the same person, and then started singing the theme tune to Batman & Robin?

Or maybe you were hoping that the train blew up and everybody died?

Or that the mayor revealed himself to be Frank Lundy, that Maggie revealed herself to be Tracey Berkowitz, that the officer revealed himself to be Craig McDermott and that John revealed himself to be Scarecrow, and they all ran away and lived happily ever after?

That would have been amazing. I couldn't get Lundy out of my head every-time I saw him. He should've figured out the John-Emma scenario as well as the murder.

Good post! At first blush, when the film ended, I thought it was a bit anti-climactic. Kind of going out with a whimper, not a bang. Then when I thought about it, it was actually a very appropriate ending. In keeping with the rest of the movie.
