I went into this movie expecting nothing...

...and what I got was a trite re-enactment of far superior movies.

SPOILERS FROM HERE.

A guilt ridden couple move into a house in the middle of nowhere so they can start a new life after an accident that put their child in a coma. The house is run down, has dry rot and no phone or cellphone coverage.

It also has spooky noises, ghostly children with computer altered voices talking in the closet, imaginary water dripping from the ceiling and mechanical toys that wind their way across the floor. You really have to put your brain by the door to watch this one as there's nothing new, nothing clever, nothing that makes it stand out from any crowd.

The cover art is great, but where was the house and road on the cover? I don't remember seeing that, and the tag line "there goes the neighbourhood" has nothing to do with the movie. There's isn't even a neighbourhood where they live, there's one house nearby with a weird old couple living in it. Why would you move somewhere so desolate and cut off when you are so messed up about your child in the hospital, and surely you check a house for dry rot and cell coverage before you move in?

Anyway, I gave it a 4 because it reminded me (in places) of other movies I love, I didn't really enjoy it but I didn't turn it off either which says something I suppose.

The ending was one of the worst I've ever seen. The husband gets put into a sleeper hold and knocked out in seconds by an 80 year old man? Give me a break. How big of a wuss is that guy. Also how can you do so much research into the disappearance of the boy and not figure out that the neighbors are his parents? Even I figured that out.

This movie sucked.
