based on a true story?

i recall watching a documentary about someone who claimed to have conversations with god and who i think did write a book about it... does anybody know who i'm talking about and whether this movie was inspired by his life?

If God speaks to anyone, why doesn't he deliver the cure for cancer via his transcribed messages?

Yeh, yeh. I know that there has to be evil in the world so that people will know good and all that, but seriously, any God that stands by and lets millions die of Aids, cancer, Malaria, and all the rest is either toothless, fictional or not worthy of any kind of praise.

God stood by and let this happen:

Do you think those children had free will not to be tortured, raped then eaten alive? Do you think that God might have had the power to rescue those poor children?

Can anyone explain even this one person existing in a world with a loving omnipotent, omniscient God?

Only a fool would attempt to disprove the existance of a God, however tiny the possibility. What is much easier is to prove that, were such a being to exist, the sheer cruelty or powerlessness of such a being.

If I were omnipotent and omniscient it would be my moral duty to eliminate hunge, disease, murder, torture and many of the other extreme evils in the world. I would wager that many others on this planet would feel a moral imperative to do the exact same thing. If I knew that a single child was being tortured somewhere in the world, I would have the utmost urgency to act on the knowledge to stop it from happening. I am just a human, but that tells me that I am infinately more moral than the Abrahamic theory of God, or that the God doesn't care, or that the God is powerless to intervene, or simply that God doesn't exist and we need a new more grown up theory.

Take your pick.

huh... i just thought you were simply an agnoistic/atheist spammer because of the way what you're saying has nothing to do with my question but then i took a look at your other postings and saw that apparently, you're not just posting this message randomly wherever people mention god...

still... before you take the time to write a comment of such proportions, you might want to make sure that the one you're trying to convince actually seems like somebody who needs to be convinced.

also, i find your argument to be lacking. you'll have a hard time convincing believers just by bringing up that serial killer and talking about god's morality. just watch religulous (and maybe read/watch some dawkins and hitchens) and you'll find that there are plenty of great arguments other than the shock value of some serial killers.

reply

Looking back, it was a little ranty.

reply

I just mention the flying spahgetti monster whenever I want to debate with religious people.

reply

maher's religulous just show how atheists lie to themselves.

Most deists ignore Isaiah 45:7 where God says "I am the Lord thy God and there is no other. I form the light and created darkness. I make peace AND CREATE EVIL. I, the Lord, do all these things."

I am a Christian and I believe God is just as evil as he is good. Anyone who says differently is contradicting the Bible...(which is very easy to do, by the way.)

reply

there is smashing infants heads to the rocks in the bible, but how do you know that creating evil is being evil?

You may be thinking of Neale Donald Walsch who wrote Conversations with God, a series of books about his alleged conversations with God Almighty. It was made into a 2006 movie available on DVD.

reply

The Gryphon is exactly right.

I just watched this movie and almost immediately I thought the movie was based on the Conversations with God books by Neal Walsch. I've read Conversations with God books 1 and 2. There is a 3rd one out there as well. I recommend reading Book 1... although if you already watched "Answer Man" you have been exposed to most of the themes from the book.

Are you talking about Neale Donald Walsch who wrote the book Conversations with God?
