The drawings in the credits

Look like they could have been the actual storyboards for the film. They depict the biggest scenes in chronological order. Notice at the very end there are more predator ships coming.

So, are we to assume the arriving predators kill the whole village and take the gun as a souvenir, to be returned in Predator 2? That’s my take.

reply

It's a different gun.

reply

same gun

reply

Yes, that's what was implied. The Elder Predator from P2 probably arrives next, starts hunting members of Naru's tribe, maybe even Naru herself, and in doing so, eventually comes to possess the flintlock pistol that he later gifts to Harrigan in 1997. This makes it a very valuable gift indeed, because it might even have been the first trophy the Elder Predator collected when he first came to Earth to hunt as a young hunter. It shows just how much he respected Harrigan for his victory in the duel.

Of course, the fact that the Elder Predator comes to possess the gun in the first place then means that things aren't looking up for Naru, who probably only scored a temporary victory here.

In both Predator 2 and AVP, the gift of a weapon was used as an expression of respect. The predators have only ever collected skulls as trophies so it would be strange to collect the gun for a trophy instead of Naru's skull. I think it's entirely possible that Naru winds up giving the gun to the elder predator.

reply

That's a good theory

Good catch

It gives the ending to Predator 2 a new outlook. The Elder Predator looks resigned and hesitant as he holds the gun, probably remembering that young human girl he encountered centuries ago.

That'd make an awesome callback, having a sequel end with Naru somehow resigned and hesitant in exactly the same way (maybe the young Elder kills her dog but saves her tribe or some such), before tossing the Elder the flintlock and saying "take it [albeit in Comanche]."

reply

It's funny, after Harrigan reads the year "1715", when the Elder Predator grunts, I always heard that as him saying "izzz it?"

reply

Well if the drawings are "diagetic," i.e., the actual character drew them in-universe, then Naru's tribe couldn't have been wiped out.

reply

Soo you're saying the the actions of a self centered feminist cunt (I can hunt, let me hunt, let me prove that I'm better than the male hunters - and fails again and again) led to her tribe (and her self) being wiped by an elder Predator???

I want to see that sequel :D

reply

Greyback wasn't an elder 300 years ago tho

reply

Do we know anything about the Predators biology and how fast they age?

I don't think we do but we do know Greyback was an elder during the Predator 2 movie.
It's possible that he was an elder back then as well or at least a lot more experienced than the one we see in Prey (which was quite dumb tbh)
It's possible that it wasn't Greyback the one that took the pistol either, might had been another Predator that took the trophy and brought it to the main ship.

The point is that we are told that somehow the pistol ended in Predators possession and the logical way is that it ended there by force.

I highly doubt they sent a party to congratulate the natives and do some trading with them (but it's not impossible).

Those drawing were pretty sweet, and yes they did look like they could've been the storyboards.
