This movie sucks

Hey,

I live in China and just got home from watching this thing and thought I should warn everyone out there before they make the mistake of paying for this crap. First, there's no plot. None. If you think American popcorn flicks are bad, just wait, because you ain't seen nothing yet. Characters appear and disappear at random, nobody talks, and the fight scenes are all close-ups of hairs and eyes. I swear, you don't see anything at all except for the actor's hair. I mean this movie should be called, "HAIR WARRIORS."

Basic plot (Beware spoilers...lots of spoilers)
Cloud has been captured by a Darth Vadar type character, who is hellbent at destroying some fantasy country. But to do that, he needs the Dragon Seed, which later turns out to be the spine of a skeleton--don't ask, but that's what it was. Anyway--how it captured Cloud and all the best fighters in the world isn't explained, but he plans on killing them. However, they get some sort of potion that allows them to break free and fight. Of course everyone dies rather quickly by the Darth Vadar bad guy--whose plot to destroy the world is never realized. Anyway--two people survive--Cloud and some guy who can make swords fly. Wind break in, frees them, and they run away.

Some dialogue...about how to defeat Darth Vadar's Asian brother, which leads Cloud, Wind, some fat guy who eats during the whole movie, and Cloud's girl to a mountain to see an armless master.

Now between these scenes--there is some nice backstory involving the bad guy and his son. It's done in 2-d animation style like in 300 or in Kill Bill--but it's short and only happens twice in the movie.

Back to the plot. Wind and Cloud have a test, Wind wins and goes takes a bath to become a powerful demon--turns out the only way to defeat Darth Vadar is with a demon. While Wind is bathing, Cloud gets trained by the guy who can shoot swords--because, according to him, he only has 10% of his kung fu left. How the hell does he know that? Anyway--train train train...and the bad guys show up somehow and there's a fight. Good guys win, demon Wind appears to demonstrate his kick ass new powers. Again, the effects of the demon are great, I actually loved them.

Then he runs away, because bad guy has found the dragon seed spine and another fight happens. This time, King is killed and now Super Cloud and Demon Wind are fighting. Demon Wind steals the dragon seed and now it's only Cloud who can stop him. Keep in mind, this is the first 50 minutes of the movie. And from this point on nobody talks. All we see are slow motion shots, Cloud looking off into the distance, Wind running, Cloud looking off into the distance some more, and then another fight--this time Cloud vs. Wind. This time, it's a battle in their head!!! That's right, they fight for 10 minutes inside their heads. After that pointless fight, they fight for real. This time they fight for 20 minutes more, meanwhile the Darth Vadar's son has stolen the most powerful kung fu upgrade in the world, the Dragon Seed, but nobody seems to have told Cloud or Wind this. They fight, fight, fight, and then Cloud kills the demon eye and frees poor Wind, who falls off a cliff. So what does Cloud do? He jumps off and saves him with his kung fu palm thrust, and sends him and his way too young girlfriend back to the mountain top and dies. The end.

I know Storm Warriors 3 is slated to come out next year sometime--so I'm sure Cloud isn't dead and the prince, with the dragon seed, will have to fight the storm warriors.

Anyway--the movie sucks. Huge waste of time and everyone at the theater I saw it in was laughing and leaving early. Not a good sign. Also, don't believe the hype--most outlets giving this a good rating are doing so to increase ticket sales for this horrific flick. At least the first one had a plot and a basic story to follow--this one doesn't have that.

So save your money. But if you do go, you've been warned.

This movie is indeed style over substance and the directors don't pretend it to be otherwise. They want to realise the art and fight in the comic into the big screen.

I don't find the movie as bad as you said. I rather enjoy it.

Some points you might have missed.

- The fantasy country is ancient china which they called Central Plain in the movie.
- All those warriors were captured using poison. This was explained in the opening narration. The potion might be some semi-antidote that let the warrriors recovered some of their strength.
- The sword guy whose name was Nameless was actually more powerful that Lord Godless (Darth Vadar), but, because he fought Lord Godless before he fully recovered, he lost.
- In wuxia story, martial artist will know how much power he has and know how much he gain and lost.
- The mind fight was suppose to be a way for Cloud to try to get the demon out of Wind.

I think this movie is mostly for fans of the comic. People who haven't read the comic will be confused on some characters and subplot like when Wind and Dream met, how they became pen pal etc. But, as long as you don't analyse so much, the movie should be ok.

Btw, you sound trollish. According to your rant above, you seems to miss many of the plot points. But, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Haha, lastly, why is the fact that you live in China relevant to this review?

Actually I am a huge fan of the comics and I am guessing that I'm much more disappointed then the casual movie goers because I know 90% of the movie was done wrong and could have been better.
They really screwed up on the script and dialogues. I know this sounds weird because of the limited 200 dialogues in this movie but I felt like a lof of them are unnecessary. For instance, too much yelling of "Wind", "Cloud" from the females.

I also want to add a couple of points.

-"Central Plain" is actually the ancient way of saying China. China is a country name now but in the ancient time the large society is the central area and the north are said to be the barbaric cultures. That's a brief summary of it. You have to read a bit of Chinese history to get the whole picture.
-All the martial artist are captured by Lord Godless at the beginning of the movie as mentioned and Ghost Tiger was able to find the antidote for them earlier before the opening scene started.
-It's not just in wusha story but most people to have an idea of how good their stamina is after they are tired from exercise. THe idea is just similar. Nameless was injured and also worn out by the poison and using his strongest technique to battle Lord Godless. So he realize he's really weak and can barely use his skills to battle anymore. The 10% is just a basic idea of his status. Doesn't mean his kung fu skill is like a chargable battery.
-The mind fight was actually very pointless as it really further confuses the audience.

I know I'm getting of topic here, but is there somewhere online where I can read the comics? I've been looking everywhere to no avail.

They base the whole movie on a small part of the comic and just focus on that part without bother explaining or showing the story before or character development. So people who don't read the comic or know anything about character got no *beep* idea what going on.
