why was heather working as a waitress?

why was heather working as a waitress when she had a rich fiancé in new york? i freely admit that i fast forwarded parts of this movie as i found the characters vacuous and unpleasant, so i may have missed the explanation.

i found this film rather pointless tbh.

I thought the film was better than I expected. It was billed as this "rich woman's gigolo falls for diner waitress" but then turned out quite different. I also liked that it did have a non-Hollywood ending.

On the question why Heather was working as a waitress... Yeah, that was weird. But I thought that she might have tried to lead a normal life and get away from her sugar daddy (because she didn't love him) but then found that she just couldn't or wouldn't want to put up with an ordinary life trying to make ends meet. As she said at the end, "I need this".

Something i feel with films like this is we don't recognize that the man and lifestyle, older man, and wealth is truly what they want. With Romcoms or films similar to this film we are always fed they will have a loveless marriage when in reality the opposite is true.
