British Cops

Just started watching this - finished Season 1 and loved it.

Midway through Season 2 and while it's good in its own right I'm having a hard time with how, for lack of a better word, wussies the detectives are.

In each of the scenes where the different team members are threatened, most American cops would have responded much much differently (especially when they threatened the DS' kid or pointed a gun at the other).

I suspect what you actually means is 'most cops in an American TV series would have responded much much differently'.

The police in the UK are not generally armed. Only specialist firearms teams have access to weapons and they make up a very small percentage of the total. The vast majority don't even have tasers. Come to think of it they don't even get bullet proof vest (just the stab proof kind). All these things might explain why they aren't usually depicted as acting like the cast of Bad Boys (except in Hot Fuzz which was *beep* hilarious).

@OP:

I was thinking the same thing. It's like they're so weak and inept. It's hard to believe.
