***SPOILER*** Did anyone find it *really*....

hard to believe that Tess killed Alec with....of all things(wait for it)....a
butter knife?! i mean when i read that scene in the book i couldn't help laughing. i mean come on! why not a butcher knife or a steak knife even?

I can. Anything can be a murder weapon if you hit just the right spot. And enough force.

LOL!

I find it hard to believe that she wounded him so badly, with a butter knife, that blood managed to seep through the ceiling.

reply

Exactly! i mean did Hardy think his readers were that stupid???? Thats really the only problem i had with the book. It is excellent otherwise.

If there is enough anger and/or determination, anything can be use as a lethal weapon.

reply

Looked like a bigger knife in the movie. Either way girlfriend used what she had and took home boy out LOL!

reply

In this version, Tess said she used a Bread Knife, but in the novel, it was clearly stated that it was a CARVING KNIFE, so as the movie Tess in 79. Actually, in 1998 version, it was a butter knife. You may have seen that version.

reply

Maybe the butter in those days was really hard and their butter knives were pointed and serrated.

reply

Hmm. A letter opener would have been a better weapon.
