Just finished watching it! I loved it!

Oh God! I am so in love with this *beep* I love it! It was so good, Gemma just won me over with every tear that she poured out of her eyes. Alec is such a bastard, there are moments were he sounds sincere and good but then he can be such a bastard. I guess that is the problem when women take kindness from men who behave like Alec, at some point, you'd think that Tess would have been a gullible girl but then after what happen to her she is stronger then before. The whole deal with Angel, I don't get, he had a primiscuous affair but Tess forgave him and yet he can't get passed her ordeal, I mean the girl was raped for Pete's sake!

I just finished watching it today, and I also loved it. I definately want to read the book now. Yes, the story was pretty tragic but I thought it was very beautfully told and I believe that all the actors did a great job in their roles...congrats to everyone who was involved with this stunning mini-series!

you can´t judge it out of todays perspective - it was a terrible great thing with virginity in that time; similar like it´s still for religious fundamentalists today (christian, islamic, jewish - they all are inhuman hardliners). and it´s not very long ago, that raped women were endangered to be called guilty for provoking that crime, cause they WANTED "it" (and there are still people which believe that bullshet among "normal" (not religious fanatic) people. and rapers take that arguement to disburden themselves)

think about what angel´s father inculcates him: it´s no matter wether she´s poor or something else, but she MUST BE PURE. i think that angel´s maybe even an exception with his qualms about his own affaire, cause male sexuality was seen as different from female and young men were expected to "make their experiences".

i didn´t read the book yet, but as far as i know the author wrote it against that hypocrisy.

Don't forget though, the guy who could not find forgiveness was an ATHEIST.

There was an Indian version of this movie years ago. Frida Pinto started in it. She had consensual sex the first time, got pregnant, and had an abortion. Her boyfriend became sadistic after that.
