Why don't they use my crafty tactic in 'Split Or Steal'?

The way it's set up is that if someone steals and the other splits, the stealer gets all the glory.....and you look like an idiot.

if I was negotiating on the split/steal thing and I was eager to split i'd get the person on the opposite end to put their hand on their heart and swear on their children, and wife/husbands life' that they'd split.

Therefore if they do steal the money from you, they may get the cash, but they will forever be the slimeball who favoured money over his families life on national TV....And people in his town or village for years will whisper 'there's that man who won all that money.....after he swore on the life of his child he'd share it...what a *beep*

Another tactic is to just be honest and tell the person that you're going to steal. No matter what. Like if someone did that to me, and I didn't hate the other person, I might be nice and split. After all, either way I wouldn't win any money.

At the same time, I wouldn't want to look like a pushover.

The episode where that happened was brilliant.

They wouldn't be the first person to swear on something important then break the promise.
Another way to look at it, if they aren't religious or superstitious then who are they swearing to? Tell a lie on a gameshow to take a 5 figure amount of cash. That could be life changing for them and their family.
So they swear to a being they don't believe in and improve the lives of their family.
On top of that, it's a game show. You're in one episode. I can think o one time I watched challenge, can't remember the gameshow, Wheel of Fortune, Blockbuster maybe family fortunes. A contestant was from my home town. I did notice that, but I'd never recognise them now. Well it was probably filmed in the 90s and I saw it in the 10s. But still. It's very rare to become a big celebrity after a game show.
