I loved it

Just because this film and films like it seem to be getting a lot of "What a load of boring, amateurish rubbish" I thought I'd write a post offering a different opinion. Namely, a positive one.

I think 'Nights and Weekends' is moving and realistic and simple and complex and subtle and personal and relatable. I've been the quiet one who watches his partner as she nervously acts up from sheer giddiness and vice versa. And as a fan of cinema I appreciate not only a realistic portrayal of relationships but also an alternative to that of the mainstream.

To all the people who hated it because it was too slow and cheap and so on... Don't you feel you're hating a film for being what it wants to be? I mean, it's like going to a Beethoven recital and complaining that it's not The Stooges, or vice versa.

In other words, if you want to fault the film, base your criticism on what it tries to do but fails at, rather than your inability to appreciate what it does.

I just saw "Damsels in Distress," and it turned me on to mumblecore and "Nights and Weekends" (even though Damsels is, of course, not itself mumblecore). I've been watching the N&W trailer (http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1075314713/), and I can't wait to see the film.
