Frau Körner

This woman (the secondary focus) bears strong resemblance to my grandmother in many ways. My grandma has Alzheimer's Dementia, and as a result, has declined for the past decade, to a child-like state. Though Frau Körner can speak clearly (unlike an advanced Alzheimer's patient), and is a very bright woman, the other residents and even the staff do not like her because of her love for a baby seal doll.

I was disgusted to see the residents talking about her as she sat right beside them. Thankfully, this isn't as prevalent in nursing homes with many Alzheimer's patients, but it is still disturbing to see.

My grandmother loves baby dolls, and has two on her bed at any given time. She holds them gently, kisses them, and has even tried to feed them! It's impossible for her family to know what she is thinking, and scientists and doctors seem to not care at all; but clearly she knows what a baby is, and that she loved them before the disease began affecting her.

So, I just want to say, if you watch this film, do so with an open mind. And remember that you could be in a nursing home someday.
