Who the hell could this movie possibly appeal to?
Let's look at this logically:
1) Easy Rider is a classic film, but it was made in 1969. The mainstream moviegoing audience and the audience that watches & knows about classics from 40 years ago are vastly different, and the latter is vastly smaller. If Easy Rider got a re-release with legit marketing, it'd still struggle to pass $2mil. Even if it wasn't available on home video, it'd have a hard time passing $20mil, just like other critics' darlings.
2) Almost the entire audience of people who have seen Easy Rider will be slamming the idea of a prequel into the ground. So if Easy Rider would make so little money with a re-release, you can imagine a prequel would be lucky to even get a 1/10 of the amount. It wouldn't even be worth it to release in theaters.
This is not a comment on the sacrilege of doing a prequel to Easy Rider; I haven't actually seen Easy Rider, so I can count myself neither a fan nor a foe. I'm just commenting on the utter unmarketability of such a film.
