The Best Movie I've Seen This Year!

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!

Why isn't this movie playing everywhere? It was so much fun!

It is by far the best movie Renee has ever done!

reply

I think I have to agree. It was truly outstanding.

That's a huge statement. Better by far than BJD and Chicago?

reply

I see the interns from the production company are trolling the boards again. Try harder fellas you've failed again.

Are you talking to me?

reply

I agree. The movie was fabulous.

reply

Just watched it on cable. It WAS excellent! Especially to find out at the end that George is THE George Hamilton and his real life mother really lived a similar life to Renee's Ann. I wish I knew in the beginning it was based on a true story. I love Renee's work and this film was another notch on her star!

I agree it was a great flick and Renée Zellweger for once didn't piss me off as much as she usually does (other than Chicago in which every character was brilliant) -- but I have to agree with some of the other comments in saying the writers of this film really have some serious issues with men!! I know its the 50's and men were generally *beep* but cooome on, be nice!!!

reply

The reason the film appeared to hit men of the 50s so bad was because there were so many like that in real life. Past one's school years, it was really difficult to meet any datable men who weren't nutballs, pervs, cheaters, alkies, drones, druggies or jerks. We used to complain often that 'all the good ones were taken'. I'm sorry if some of you think that's 'homophobic', but that's the way it was. Whenever I went to work in a new company, the women there would warn me about who was OK and who to watch out for, and there were an awful lot of names in the 'watch out for' category.

Recall also that it was a time when overall women were earning much, much less than men did, so if they wanted kids and a satisfactory lifestyle, they had to marry to have that. And they had to choose carefully. Most high level jobs were closed to women; women earning a comfortable living on their own were rare.

This movie reminded me (in a highly entertaining way) of what the women's movement was all about. If Renee Zellweger's character could have relied on something other than her sexuality to succeed in the world, maybe she wouldn't have considered marrying any of those losers. She wouldn't have had to.

The world is different now. If a 2009 woman did the same thing now, and met only the type of men she met, I'd take it as a parody or a polemic, but not as 'real life'.

reply

Well, maybe you didn't notice but this is a quite biographical movie.
Does the name George Hamiltpn ring any bell to you?

reply

Splendid! I am eager to see this film. It got good reviews and it looks like a cute film. I'm just going to have to wait until DVD.

Opinions were like kittens I was giving them away.

A slow movie. Kevin Bacon couldn't save it.

Absolutely loved it but not the best movie Renee has acted in. Renee is one of my favorite actresses. I would rank her films in order as the following:

1. Cinderella Man
2. Bridget Jones Diary
3. Jerry McGuire
4. My One and Only
5. Cold Mountain
6. Down with Love

I love her versatility, she can play comedy and drama. On my list 1,2,and 3 are on my top 25 of all time favorite movies. Incredible Film.

I think this film will be way up my list when I get to see it. I hope the international release isn't too far away.

I guess we are in the same boat now. Still no news of an Australian release. I'm starting to think it won't happen and I really wanted to see it at a theatre.

Hopefully the DVD isn't that far away.

No love for Nurse Betty? I like the fact she can act in dark comedies.

I lost my mind at Shutter Island.

reply

Cold Mountain was the best renee has ever done than this film

trynna get my mind frame!"

reply

"My One and Only" never played anywhere near where I live in the sticks of New Jersey. Pathetic. I don't understand why this film wasn't promoted more and distributed to a mass audience. In terms of Renee's best films, how can you leave out "Chicago" and "Cold Mountain"? She was incredible in the former and just excellent in the latter.

reply

Agree Agree Agree, She did a great job with this small budget film. Without the luxury of money This film was made in a short time. I doubt the did to many retakes. Which shows just what great character actors Renee and Kevin are. I think they ran out of money to really push this film like it should have. Hopefully the DVD release will help them recoup some cash. Why is it some really good films make little money while some bombs make so much?

Loved the cast, story and script. I wasn't disappointed.

Just watched this with my wife, we thought it was terrific.

reply

I watched it yesterday and me and my bf were the only ones in the movie theatre!
All of the other people saw the Valentine's day movie.
Rennee was amazing and I also think this is her best role!

reply

Totally loved the movie and the period look. Had a diverse cast and everyone was spot on. I was really impressed with the kid who played 'George'. Was wondering if this really was based on the George Hamilton. Got a kick out of seeing the name on that chair at the end.

reply

It was really a surprise - good acting, good direction. Excellent story and good characters. What a gem!
