Why are extras white?

Why are all the extras/back up dancers in Bollywood movies always white these days? I thought Hollywood is for white people - not Bollywood. Psychological racism perhaps?

reply

Well...it could be your retarded theory about psychological racism...OR it could be that Dostana was taking place in MIAMI which is the USA and is a majority white country. 3 Idiots was obviously all Indian as it took place in India...

Not to harp on you, because I personally feel that Bollywood films while more slick and stylish these days are losing their old school charm in part. IE Race in South Africa was cool but a bit over the top...but oh well

The U.S. is the most diverse country! Perhaps, in your history books, only whites are discussed! Also, there are alot of mixed races, and our president happens to be mixed with African-American! Look him up, he goes my Barack Obama! As for the white folk being protrayed only as Americans- as if! This part is sterotypical.

I wish folks would stop using the word "retarded" because it sound so stupid for a grown person (if you are that) to use, and it's just a stupid and ignorant word to use anyway. And,yes, Indian cinema is racist as hell when it comes to casting---you rarely see a dark-skinned Indian woman cast as the lead, unless it's an indie Indian film.

But,yeah, it's pretty damn obvious to anyone who's watched Bollywood movies for any length of time that they definitely have this *beep* preference for only light-skinned actresses---hell, even in one of the South Asian movies I watched, which tend to have darker-skinned people in their casts anyway, there was an extremely light-skinned young lady cast as the potential live interest---what kind of *beep* message is that sending to young dark-skinned Indian girls? Basically, that they aren't worth a damn unless they look white---there's an Indian commercial on YouTube about a skin lightening cream that pretty much spells this out in so many words. Plus, from what I've read about some parts of Indian society, they're hung up on having light skin as better looking than anything else, despite the fact that dark-skinned folks are the majority in that country--go figure--just shows you how deep institutional racism runs, and not only in India---America's always had that same exact problem.

Thank you. I can't believe people actually use the excuse that because it's in Miami, the cast should be all white. Are you kidding me? The U.S. is diverse. I should be seeing blacks, Asians, and Latinos, but that never seems to be the case. I hate this trend of Bollywood movies taking place abroad. In theory, it would be a great way to showcase diversity. In practice, all you see is white people. They've even resorted to using white people as Indians. Because apparently white people can play Indians better than us. Search up Amy Jackson.

Are you on crack? Miami is FULL of Latinos and black people. You're deluded if you haven't noticed that white extras/dancers (especially women) are always used in Hindi films, and yes, even the ones that take place and are filmed in India.

It is sadly true. I was thinking that while the idea that every film has to have a representative mix of racial diversity is a boring imposed standard - but all in all Bollywood rarely shows blacks or latinos, compared to how often white extras and dancers are used. I have seen black dancers in some productions but it is much too rare. I do think it reflects prejudices prevalent in India, where light skin is considered beautiful, and most often Asians in general are thought as superior to Africans.

Bravo!!
That is why I could never rate this film a perfect ten. I was outraged by all the white extras in the film. It just goes to show how whites have completely destroyed both my races (I'm Indian and black) each one is a victim of self hatred and white superiority.

Hmm...perhaps Miami is a dead give away
