Is it just me, I'm TRULY ANNOYED at the use of British voices as alleged Americans! Not just this movie, but Kal Ho Na Ho, KANK, etc - all filmed in America - where there is no shortage of American actors/actresses, yet the extras are all British! Perhaps the casting directors can't distinguish the obvious accentual differences, but the viewing audiences can!
I say chaps - enough! It's the same as passing Chinese actors as Japanese or vice-versa.
They don't film the entire movie in New York/London/wherever, just the key outdoor scenes. The rest is done in the studio in India where production costs are much lower BUT they need to have white people as extras because the films are supposed to be set in the west.
So, if your western and ever go to Mumbai (and you should - its a fantastic place) you will be offered a job as an extra the second you check into you hotel.
Its actually really funny to watch Indian film clips, with masses of pale pudgy poms grinding in the background ;)
Probably the movie makers make the assumption that they would get away with the accent. I remember in Kal ho na ho, when Priety's kid brother corrects his dadi's pronunciation of "Harry Potter", he is made to say it in an British accent, even though he is portrayed as being raised in NY. They get so silly at times.
shareIf you're talking about the auctioneer, he had an Australian accent, not a British one. I thought it was a bit odd, but who knows, maybe in the world of the movie, he's an immigrant to the US? It happens. Just as believable as every single important character being a Hindi-speaking Indian when the story is set in Miami...
