Why are Bollywood films so Disgustingly Cheesy

Someone tell me.

a) Indian cinema by and large is marketed towards familys - most familys can't afford multiple tv's so the whole family, friends and neighbours watch it together, they also go to the flicks as a family. That means no steamy sex scenes and the movie has to be accessable to children so nothing to hard on the brain.

b) some people are *beep* nuts over there! The slightest bit of controversy can result in riots, cinemas being burnt down and death threats to actors and directors.

c) And finally (drum roll) because thats what Indians like!!!!!!

What you consider cheesy and what you consider cool has nothing to do with quality and everything to do with the culture you live in.
Think Batman, Bad Boys, pretty much anything with Sharon Stone in it, Bond (not Connery Bond obviously - he transcends cool).

Anyway it is what it is - if you don't like melodrama, bad acting and song and dance scenes might I suggest sampling some of the other styles of Indian cinema?

While I agree with a family watching together and hence no steamy sex scenes, I dont agree with neighbors watching it together. It used to happen in 1995, not now. I haven't seen two families watching together, cause one didnt have one, in forever. While it might happen in a few places, you must take it in context. What I mean is that the people who can't afford to have a TV won't go to cinemas, wont have DVD players and wont buy original DVDs and wont even count in TRP ratings. I am not degrading them, just saying that I dont think a movie producer will think much about them, cause they will hardly bring any revenue.
Once again, they are my countrymen and have as many rights as me, just saying it from a factual and commercial viewpoint.

No people arent nuts over here in India. You are making it as if India is some Taliban state. Let me tell you friend that there are regular smooches in Indian movies and I don't see anyone going bananas over them. I have seen girls out in skimpy and revealing outfits (and well to do girls at that, not because of necessities) and nobody said anything, I've seen couples cuddling in gardens/malls/movie halls and nobody said anything or bothered. Our censor did pass a Lesbian movie named 'Girlfriend' which had one really hot scene between leads and that movie too didnt cause that much controversy (riots and cinemas being burnt down as you say, a few protests and show cancellations might have been there) and there was also a movie with 17 smooches in it (khwahish was it?) and censor did pass it and just a few days ago censor has passed NewYork in which both male leads have nude scenes and also a movie on a painter in which Nandana sen has given nude scenes..and these are a few examples only. I have seen people openly and publicly talking about sex etc and that didn't cause any trouble. I walk around with my GF hand in hand and never was the case that anyone said even a little bit about it.
Yes there are a few conservationist group but then again, where they aren't? Obviously India is no US, let alone Europe, but its quite open society and honestly, I wont like to see it become US or Europe in that sense. Its perfectly balanced IMO.

Take that film Billu Barber for example. Bunch of barbers threw a bitch fit because the movie was named Billu BARBER. WTF?
They ended up removing the word barber from the title. Fking morons.

Riots (burning of posters etc) are not done by the regular population here. It's just a few political groups who do all that. Regular cinema goers aren't bothered about using the word "barber" or the steamy scenes in films for which they would start burning posters or creating chaos or anything like that.

Just like a particular group of people don't like Dan Brown's works, there are few (mostly small, wanna-be political) groups who do such stuff and NOT the general population.
