Do we see a lot of Rome in this movie ?

Cause if yes, it could be the only reason i would watch this movie when it hits tv.
Thanks.

No you do not. Which is a shame because I thought, if the movie is bad, I can still enjoy Rome. What you see of Rome is gorgeous. But it's about five minutes of Rome ten minutes into the movie and about two minutes of Rome (could be a set) at the end.

I knew this wasn't going to be a great movie going in, and turned out to be an absolute stinker, but I thought the same as you, at least I'll get to see Rome. And I didn't. And that made it worse.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

The fountain itself is not even in Rome.
As an italian, I can say this movie is embarassing.

It's not even in Rome ???
There are hollywood methods of doing things i can't stand. Ok it's not a documentary, but will all the fountains in Rome they could at least have picked one up.
Ok, i'll stay clear from this movie then.
Thanks for all the replies :)

I agree as20, I can forgive a lot if the movie is in a beautiful setting. My Life in Ruins was terrible (I rented it thank goodness) but the scenes in Greece helped a lot. I don't think the cast went to Rome on this one. I think they sent a film crew for a day for some overview shots, edited them in and the rest is a set and New York.

reply

Are you serious? I thought I was a total moron for not recognizing it!!

And I too was very disappointed in the fact that most of the movie was set in NY. Misleading title, no?

reply

Yea, you only see a bit at the beginning and the end like OhNowYouveBeenClowned mentioned. It isn't like this movie's title is "On My Long Trip in Rome" is it more like "seize the day" sorta expression...."When in Rome, Do Like the Romans," so it makes sense that she was just there for a quick trip.

reply

Yeah, lol. I've been to Italy and that fountain in the movie is too small to be like the real thing. I have home video of the actual fountain in Italy and the real Italian fountain was spectacular. That being said, the film was shot beautfiully and the Rome scenes look nice... If any criticism can be directed at the movie, it would be more towards the script and dialogue.

Yeah, honestly, when you call a movie when in rome...it should be set in rome....for some reason i thought it was gonna be like roman holiday, but it wasn't. I thought she was gonna go to rome for a vacation and like meet the man of her dreams there. but also be chased down by creepy italians....but i guess the cost to shoot in rome is expensive.

I checked GoogleMaps for Piazza Borghese, found it - and the story gets interesting.

The older view from the sky does not show a fountain, there is only space where cars park. The Google Street View pics show the fountain and NEW cobblestone in the piazza, as well as some fresh paint on one of the buildings. If you look carefully, you can see movie set lights on some of the poles, and a balcony.

Now...there is an Easter Egg in the pics. If you check all the view of the piazza, you can see one pic where the fountain is being constructed, and the wood supports under the fake stone steps can CLEARLY bee seen!

Yup, the fountain in the movie is a prop built on location! I will be in Rome in the next few weeks and I hope to stroll through the piazza to see if the prop is still there -- I doubt it -- it's only wood and plaster! Still they did a nice job of turning a dull open space into a commercial piazza for the film.
