Hollywood is a hypocrite in retrospect

I don't have a problem with Roger Corman in general. What I have a problem with is that, now in retrospect, Hollywood is now holding Corman up as a genius. It's kind of like how the press worshipping Mohammed Ali now, but back in the day, he was crusified in the press. I'm just saying, it's funny how the media changes their tune once history has proven them wrong. How many times have you seen a movie critic rip on a movie, but twenty years later, they are claiming it as an obvious classic... like a lot of them did with Star Wars (so much so, that almost all of them was scared to death to announce that the prequel moves her bad.)

Not really. People have always looked at him in different ways and this film is just about bringing them all to light. Hollywood isn't all one voice.

Is your diatribe against Hollywood or the media — or both?

"Hollywood" never condemned Roger Corman, and "Hollywood" isn't holding him up as a genius today. His films have always found their audience, and today the members of that audience who are still around are probably still fans — along with a younger generation discovering his work. His films have always been scrappy, low-budget pleasures for those who appreciate such efforts.

As for "Star Wars," I didn't notice a turnaround in critical assessment. It was a blockbuster that some critics liked in 1977, others didn't and still others were indifferent toward. How has that changed today?

I just wish people would stand by their convictions. and if those convictions have changed, say it. That is how I felt back then and now that I've re-thought it, I flipped-flopped opinion. It happens I do it all the time. But you should have to admit it and not pretend you loved it whole time.

I do believe alot of people do change their opinions over time, it comes with age and the ability to reasses things in a different context, which is an ability only an adult would really possess.

It's always the case with artists who refuse to compromise and hold their integrity dear. The artists who rather go back to working a 9 to 5 job instead of selling out commercially and doing something they loathe. Many of the best artists(musicians, directors, actors, comedians, painters etc..etc..) were never popular on a mainstream level when they were producing their best work. It's a shame but after awhile, they are finally recognized for their wonderful contributions on that mainstream level...and that is because there was always a huge fan-base out there who loved their work and constantly raved about it to everyone they came across.

Before the "Internet", there was "word of mouth" and "underground trading". This is how most folks would learn about the artists of the sub-culture back then. This is how their work came to be appreciated and admired. Concerning Mainstream Hollywood, they eventually catch on because of that huge fan-base and profits generated. Case in point, Roger Corman. Also many A-list actors and directors who got their start due to him talking about his contributions and importance helps too.

It's not just Hollywood though. Look at the "Rock And Roll Hall Fame". To quote Yoda...Completely clueless, they are.
