This doc sucks!

Everything about the marketing for this doc is ripping off Not Quite Hollywood, yet instead of a doc about exoitation films that leaves you dying to see countless films you'd never heard of, we have a nice little quiet celebrity driven piece that's sole agenda is trying to get Corman some due credit in the film awards industry. You guys really should check out Not Quite Hollywood because it is beyond ten times better than this propaganda piece.

For my money, Not quite Hollywood revels in tasteless misogynistic charmless boring sleaze fests with absolutely no other subtext (intentional or not). At least Corman’s trashy films have a sense of intelligence, wit and charm (and more importantly subtext). Plus Corman comes across as a smart guy who appreciates all ranges of films. The majority of the boorish Ozzies go out of their way to insult Peter Weir and the other filmmakers who formed the New Wave of Ozzie films. Corman acknowledges them, and uses them as a development to enhance his skills as a filmmaker.

Needless to say, after watching Not quite Hollywood, I had no desire to watch any of the Oz films I’d not already seen. Plus, Corman’s World is directed by a woman, so hasn’t got that leery sleazy vibe that Not quite Hollywood seems to revel in.

I think Corman seems like a decent guy, and boy, he’s earned that Oscar.

But, hey, that’s your opinion, and that’s mine.

I enjoyed it. Because I'm young, not really young but 28 is young for these kind of films and it taught me a lot. Jack Nicholson is and will forever be my favorite actor, an icon and my idol.

So what I knew of Roger Corman prior to watching this was films like Cry Baby Killer, The Little Shop of Horrors, The Raven, The Terror, The Trip, The Shooting, Ride in the Whirlwind and anything with Nicholson attached to it.

Of course I had heard of Death Race 2000 and Piranha but that's about it.

But I agree if a person grew up with this stuff it probably wouldn't live up to the hype, exploiting Hollywood as such.

Thanks for the tip on "Not Quite Hollywood"

Not Quite Hollywood is specially about the kinds of films that you find offensive. They are the exploitation films from the country known as ozsploitation. They documentary was meant to discuss those kind of horrific imagery and story telling styles, not the entirety of all the cinema that has been released from Australia.

However I do agree with you about Corman being intelligent and witty with his films. That is why I enjoy his work.
