Why is it that someone always want to 'Do the Right Thing'?

I just dont get it. I guess I have a criminal mind, but I NEVER EVER would tell someone that I had done something wrong if it meant I was going to lose my job or lose a relationship. Especially if by telling the truth it wouldn't make any difference.
Now if somebody else happened to get in trouble instead that was innocent, maybe I would think about it. But to just say, "It's the right thing to do" is crap, IMO. And even if someone else hypothetically did say, go to jail for something I did, and the punishment was like life in prison or worse, the death penalty, Um, ya, I probably would keep my mouth shut. It's a basic human right for self preservation.
But we aren't even talking about something crazy like that. This guy got drunk on his own, acted like an a$& on his own. Went to a party with a DJ and a disco ball when he knew he was epileptic. To me, he deserved whatever consequences that he got. Why is it their fault? She was upset and guilty because they dumped him out, he was probably going to be in a coma even if they had called 911. Plus the guy was a nutjob that was probably going to be a serial killer or something, so they did society a favor, right?(lol)
