were there any other movie that similar to this sort of genre?

I'm not really sure if it would technically be the same genre but "United States of Leland", starring Ryan Gosling, reminds me of this movie. They both have seemingly cold or distant main characters who you begin to better understand as the story goes on.

I will admit that I thought "United States of Leland" was just so-so the first time I watched it, but I liked it more and more with each subsequent viewing to the point that it is now one of my favorite movies.

"Keith" is another movie that you might enjoy. "Keith" is probably more similar to "The Vicious Kind" than "United States of Leland" is, but I think "United States of Leland" is the better movie.

This movie reminded me of "Book of Love" (2004) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376006/. Another good film that deals with relationships, lust and infidelity.

"Buffalo '66" is a movie I was kinda obsessed with when it came out and it has some similar dynamics (troubled protagonist/bad luck with women/obsession with women/dim-witted friend/cool/artsy feel/music/cinematography) albeit a much less graphic/more romanticized version of this....

I thought of Buffalo 66 too, while watch this.
