Worst Alpha ability seen on the show?

Finished a marathon viewing of both seasons of this great show and would like to officially nominate "silent feet Red Flag member" for the goofiest Alpha ability award. Now, I can sort of get how having a super-sneak ability might come in handy (I guess?) but the fact that they had him wear that weird footwear with the toes and black leggings (had to rewind it to verify I was really seeing this) just made it more silly than cool.

Really sucks that this was cancelled, and with an epic cliffhanger at the end of S2 as well. There is truly no justice in the world.

Asian guy with the "super lungs" was kinda dumb, IMO.

Also - the guy who could 'read faces' to tell if they were lying or not.

Worst ability was the baby who had the ability to make people want to protect him.

Because it was just stupid. Honestly, of all the abilities they could've given him that's what they go with? It wasn't exactly cool or useful.

@crooked_spoons, are you talking about the baby or the silent guy?

the sneaking guy's power made him good at sneaking. the babys power made the people want to protect him. seem pretty useful to me.

Jesus this post is over seven months old but I was talking about the baby. It was a silly ability because well, most people who aren't psychopaths are generally prone to care for an infant, especially if it were in distress. It just seemed redundant.

babies grow up. it's a useful ability.

reply

Very much like geek Jason the high schooler who created his "hive" of "friends" and sexually assaulted his crush. It wasn't a horrible ability (the baby) but too predictable. It'd have been great, if the baby had that Sipio firehands thing, just cuz lmao

I know this post is a year old...

However, for an evolutionary point of view (MY genes must survive)... the power makes perfect sense. Survival of the fittest.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was an homage *Caugh*Ripoff!*Caugh* off of Misfits(2009) who is also an action series about superpowers from British television.
But I must say, after watching the first season, Misfits looks like GOLD compared to the stuff they put on ALPHAS. mostly because the abilities on Misfits are sometimes played for Laughs on top of Drama
for instance, even though the show has serious issues about the remifications of time-travel, mind-control and age-switching powers...
you find a with a power that can automatically teleport him into the nearest closet... and only when he starts arguing about his latent homosexuality.
Alphas are trying to be serious about it... but Misfits know when they better not be

reply

Misfits was pretty awesome. The abilities were a bit crap, just cuz... what? Alpha's powers were more plausible I guess, for the most part. Like, you didn't have cheese like Ice Man or Human Torch to an extent. Gary was the only one really out of the norm.

The writers should have thrown a character in with some completely off-the-wall power. Something like being able to play Jenga better than anyone in the world, or who could stuff massive amounts of cheetoes in his mouth.

~After enjoying that movie, I figured I'd drop by IMDB to read about all of its problems.

reply

sure it looked silly. but it wouldn't be if the guy was trying to kill someone. i appreciate that they didn't go all "X-Men" with it. for the most part, the powers were realistically unimpressive.
