You guys don't get it
This movie isn't really meant to be watched for its raw filmmaking entertainment value. This one is meant to be enjoyed for its imagination value.
You're not supposed to watch a movie like this without trying to imagine yourself there, in the world that H.G. Wells tried to paint. If you're just trying to get entertained by the acting, direction, and script, you'll miss it. This one is about tossing yourself casually into another reality altogether.
And yes, it is a horribly made movie. But the worse it got, the more I was laughing. Like when the son "died". That had me almost on the floor laughing. Little brat came rushing out calling for dad as soon as there were booms, when the dad told him to stay put until he comes back DOWN. I mean, it's not funny to the storyline, but it is just so unrealistically dramatized, it was ridiculous to the point of humor.
That's why you can't watch this for the drama, even though it starts out with plenty of it. You have to watch it while geeking out a bit. There's only one way to enjoy the original Star Trek series, too. It's the same idea.
