Why do people watch/make movies like this?

What can possibly make a human use time and money to watch something like this. I don't understand, you seriously have to be disturbed? Correct me if I'm wrong, but how is this vision in anyw ay positive for humanity and filmmaking?

It's a political commentary, haven't you heard? They would never *beep* babies at Serbia from now on thanks to that movie and people are free now!

I don't get your comment kashadoo

reply

Too deep for you, obviously.

andy, he's referring to A Serbian Film when he makes his comment. I didn't really understand the context of why he said it, but yeah...

I don't think I'm disturbed. Maybe I am? I'm a good person though. I don't commit crimes. Love animals, etc.
and I loved the film.
It's violent and gory yes. But it has a plot.
With a title like that what did you expect?
It had a lot of underlying commentary about the world we live in. The commercials, the dark humor, etc etc. Critics liked it, ones ive read.
Could ask how a lot of films help society. And are all films supposed to help society? How does paranormal activity 1-42 help society?

I've watched this movie multiple times now. Still love it!

It's just a movie, and a fun splatter movie at that. It's way ott to be taken seriously. But even if it was, it's still just a movie.

There is always going to be an audience for the extreme and disturbing movies. I find this is actually an example for a fun extreme flick, in a similar vein to something like Braindead. But if you were to look at a movie like Martyrs, which is also blood soaked, that movie is actually a much more serious flick, and 100 times more disturbing then this fluff of a movie will ever be.
But the point is, many people watch this movie, Martyrs and many others. There are countless classics that have been banned in countries due to their excessive and offensive nature, like Cannibal Holocaust or Salo, and many people still watch them. It doesn't make them sick, it doesn't make them disturbed, it merely makes then movie fans. Most people can tell the difference between fantasy and reality. Just because someone enjoys watching a horror movie doesn't make them a serial killer, the same way someone playing a violent video game doesn't make them one.

As for why they are positive for humanity...well, it's escapism, fictional entertainment, it's not supposed to be positive or negative for humanity, it's just a movie we watch to take a break from life and immerse ourselves in. We do it all the time. Look how popular the movie Scarface is, though everyone watching it don't run their own drug empire. Movies are just a way for people to enjoy a fictional movie.

It's cool if it wasn't for you, but liking these movies doesn't make someone disturbed.

"He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy!"

reply

Because it's fun.

"Ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

reply

Really? We're down to judging the quality of one's character by the movies they enjoy? And by something entirely fictional and totally impossible, no less?

But nah, you're right. I love movies like this and I'm a depraved son of a bitch. I have a girl chained up in my basement right now.

Wow, nice was to insult a whole bunch of people based on their taste in film. Shall I ask what films you like and then say you must be disturbed to like those films? I love this film because it is violent, gory and perverse, because I like films that are brutally violent, bloody, disgusting and full of over the top gore. I am also a married father of three who works two jobs and would never let my kids watch anything unsuitable. So I do not, in fact, believe I am disturbed in any way.
